5.1 Comparing and Contrasting: Essay Despite the fact of sharing a country, the Southern and Northern areas of America had many contrast and judgment, which ends up spiting up the nation. At the time of the 1800's the South and the North had ended up in different ways. The difference between, the Southerners was that in the 1800's the southerners were survival farmers. The South had land and climate that was wonderful for growing cotton. The Northern United States and the textile mills in Great Britain expand the demand for cotton soared. The cotton farmers acknowledge by planting more and more acres of cotton. The ranch spread and grow toward westward. The Cotton production was exact labor-intense and plantation owners that had depended on the slaves to do the work on the farm. Most of the slaves that worked on the farm was treated poorly and was forced to exertion for very long hours. Social hierarchy was developed with wealthy plantation owners on the top, the white subsistence farmers was in the middle, and the enslaved black people were at the bottom. The difference between Northerners, was that the northers were small farmers, the North had became more and more manufacturing as the cities in the north had sprang up along with the eastern coast and the interior waterways.
