Long’s objectives were very off the wall and he was a very dishonest person when he would campaign only looking out for himself. Back then the internet and cell phones didn’t exist so a person running for Governor could tell the people from the northern part of Louisiana one thing and tell the citizens of the southern part of the state another. This is exactly what Huey Long did and he became very popular amongst the masses. He told the masses whatever he needed to so that he could acquire their votes. None of the citizens of Louisiana knew Long would change his beliefs when he went to different parts of the state because the media was not as advanced as it is today. These very smart but mischievous tactics worked for Long and he was elected 40th Governor of Louisiana in 1928. He made multiple promises to the people of Louisiana that he didn’t keep and he was very fraudulent while in office. He was also dishonest when it came to his relationship with his wife Rose McConnell Long. Furthermore, respect probably was not something that Long took into consideration when communicating with other people. For example, he did not remove his hat in President Roosevelt’s presence. Acts like this were nothing new to Long and they depicted the type of mindset he had as a person. He was more interested in self-gain than that of the government
