Critical Thinking Presentation
HUM/111

CRITICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING

Is this topic a problem or an issue? How would you express it?

The issue is what I would call it. It can affect the planning and development processes.

Incorporating this into the processes could make a huge impact on the overall project.

What methods could you use to produce ideas to resolve this problem or issue?

The first thing I would do is to focus on what this is going to help and why the committee should do this. Make sure and give good examples and focus on the main important points that we want to express our presentation.

What habits and perceptual blocks that hinder your thinking did you have to overcome with this topic?

With all the members of the committee that could say no. We can get so much more of these students if they were able to be critical thinkers or master thinkers.

What types of questions should you ask to think about this topic critically?
 

How is this going to affect the committee? How am I going to express the importance of this training processes? How are we going to implement my plan to make this happen?

How did you evaluate arguments in your research?

When I came to evaluating the research I chose to take each argument at hand and make a chart of the pros and cons for each item. When someone has more opinions or research done on their topic. They can make better arguments and making people change their minds is what we are trying to achieve. So when we research. We should always see both sides of the argument to make the best choices.

What assumptions or errors in reasoning did you encounter?

Once we recognize the possibilities for development of these students, and ourselves, and see that there is nothing to prevent that development except bad habits, self development will develop as we break these bad habits.

Which techniques should you use to present your ideas and to persuade your

The biggest breaking story I chose was about the Afghans heading to the polls to vote amid the threats of insurgent attacks. On the CNN website, it seemed like the story was less detailed and descriptive than the other sites. Even though it covered the situation in Afghanistan, the information was delivered in a more passive way than FOXNews and MSNBC, almost as if it was a more opinion-based article. I noticed also that some of the key points that were covered on the CNN site were also covered in the other sites. Information on how many candidates were competing for election and how many seats were available in parliament seemed to be a point that all of the sites included. One main difference in the information that CNN covered, compared to the other sites, was it didn’t discuss or report anything about deaths during the election process. While news of different attacks were covered, like a roadside bomb blowing out the glass of a governor’s vehicle for example, reporting that there were no injuries quickly followed. There weren’t many links included on the page that related to the story. However, the one link that was there was a video that helped reinforce what the article covered. Other related links lead to topics on Afghanistan and the Afghanistan war. The commentaries on the CNN article were different because they described different accounts of what happened. Some discussed people were still going to the polls to vote while others came from candidates in the election.…

My view on the subject of looking for more oil by drilling in places that have not been checked before is it is unnecessary. If the companies that put such effort toward blocking attempts to phase in more alternative sources for power put the effort into developing these alternatives sources the world would be much healthier. The oil industry is one of the richest and most powerful industries in the world today and this industry is fighting against the change to cleaner and more environmentally safe energy alternatives. The reason for the oil industry to resist this change is pure greed. The industry stands to lose a great deal of money if the United States government phases out the use of fossil fuels.…

Living in a community that offers all the amenities can be very beneficial to families. It allows them to live life in the comfort of their own neighborhood with the neighbors they know. Those types of neighborhoods also seem to offer a bit more safety and protection as well. Sometimes though we can’t protect against everything and human error takes place that can cause harm to others. If a mistake was made in a community development that has caused some children and adults to get sick, there can be a lot of possibilities as to how they got sick. The tough part in determining what could be causing the sickness is that so many factors are involved. Is it a fluke that people are getting sick or was it an accident on someone’s part?…

Student’s character development in higher education can be understood by Arthur Chickering’s theory of development. In his article, “The Seven Vectors: An Overview” Chickering delves into the idea that college students experience seven vectors of development throughout their college experience. These vectors of development must reach resolution for the student to achieve identity. The seven vectors posed by him are developing competence, managing emotions, moving through autonomy toward independence, developing mature interpersonal relationships, establishing identity, developing purpose, and developing integrity. These can be used as maps to help determine where students are and which way they are heading. Though Chickering did not necessarily state that a student’s movements through these seven vectors were sequential, the theory indicates that student’s must resolve through a specific group of vectors as a foundation towards progressing through later vectors. Although the vectors have more direction and magnitude, they build upon one another from simpler tasks to more difficult tasks. Achieving an increased level of sense in one vector not only strengthens assurance brought to adult tasks, but also affects the remaining six vectors of development. However, instead of focusing on only emotional, social, moral, or intellectual development, Chickering’s theory should have included a student’s demographics as well.…

Discuss how well-reasoned you find this argument. In your discussion, be sure to analyze the line of reasoning and the use of evidence in the argument. For example, you may need to consider what questionable assumptions underlie the thinking and what alternative explanations or counterexamples might weaken the conclusion. You can also discuss what sort of evidence would strengthen or refute the argument, what changes in the argument would make it more logically sound, and what, if anything, would help you better evaluate its conclusion.…

Once the training committee has been set up, it can then look into the variety of options they have available to them. It can send committee members to seminars, conferences, and trainings, which in turn would allow them to gather information and then train the organizations employees on the matter at hand. For example, a non-profit that works in family and youth development can send 3 site managers and 1 area director to a BOOST conference, a three-day conference that assists non-profits with ways to fundraise, market, build relationships with school faculty, connecting with members, redirecting negative behavior, etc. The employees that were chosen would then bring back the information they learned and recreate the training for the employees in the organization. Financially, this would be a great way for the organization to save money, while still managing to train employees.…

Good afternoon members of the committee. I am delightfully honored to work for a corporation with such a bright future. I feel that I have an idea to only increase the financial outlook for this company. I think that adding a training department would be in the best interest of the employees, and the board, as well as the future stockholders that we all hopefully see on the horizon. I would like to get together with the board to discuss my idea in the near future, and I look forward to hearing of your availability. Thank you.…
