Human Characteristics In Lord Of The Flies

I believe these chapters bring up a very interesting perspective on human characteristics. We as humans want to be in a pack or tribe. This group of young boys is finding out just how difficult it is to be a part of a group. Ralph and Piggy where first to try to round up the boys for a meeting. Ralph called on a Kong shell which made a loud blast sound. Ralph had a sound plan of voting a chief to make decisions (22). Though Piggy is very smart and should really be in charge he was not chosen to be leader. Ralph though a sturdy boy was chosen over Jack. Jack would surely make a good leader as he is already in charge of a group of boys called the Choir. Jack was not chosen because he is cruel, angry and the small children fear him. The small boys are left mostly to themselves and un-accounted for.
Jack constantly pushes at Ralph and is getting frustrated with not being in charge. Just like in a pack of wolves the other males in the pack will challenge the Alpha wolf for position. Jack is challenging what Ralph says because he believes he should be the chief of the tribe. To add to the friction Jack has been fixated on hunting and has pulled his boys off the signal fire to hunt a pig. In the boys absents the fire went out and they missed a ship that could possibly save them from the island. Jack thinks that Ralph is to infatuated with the fire to care about much more
