The Lord Of The Flies: Summary
The Lord of the Flies was a very interesting book. It was about these kids stuck on a island. The first boys to be on the island were Piggy and Ralph. They were just walking and talking about who they were and were they were. As they were walking Piggy found a shell. He was very happy to have found that shell he sounded it and told Ralph that they could use that to bring up others boys to where they were. When they were sounding it a lot of boys came out of the trees and came towards Ralph and Piggy and sat on the rocks. Ralph grabbed the shell out of Ralph’s hand and sounded it and then a group of boys where the last ones to come out. He asked where was the one that made that noise. Ralph and Jack both went towards him. The boy thought that …show more content…
One night, an aerial battle occurs above the island, and a casualty of the battle floats down with his opened parachute, ultimately coming to rest on the mountaintop. Breezes occasionally inflate the parachute, making the body appear to sit up and then sink forward again. This sight panics the boys as they mistake the dead body for the beast they fear. In a reaction to this panic, Jack forms a splinter group that is eventually joined by all but a few of the boys. The boys who join Jack are enticed by the protection Jack's ferocity seems to provide, as well as by the prospect of playing the role of savages: putting on camouflaging face paint, hunting, and performing ritualistic tribal dances. Eventually, Jack's group actually slaughters a sow and, as an offering to the beast, puts the sow's head on a stick.
Of all the boys, only the mystic Simon has the courage to discover the true identity of the beast sighted on the mountain. After witnessing the death of the sow and the gift made of her head to the beast, Simon begins to hallucinate, and the staked sow's head becomes the Lord of the Flies, imparting to Simon what he has already suspected: The beast is not an animal on the loose but is hidden in each boy's psyche. Weakened by his horrific vision, Simon loses

All of man will destroy itself. Proving this is William Golding's purpose in writing "The Lord of the Flies", a story about a group of boys stranded on a deserted island. When the boy's priorities clash, a war breaks out between protagonist Ralph and shortsighted antagonist Jack, who instead of being rescued would rather hunt. The fight for power between them soon turns to violence. Golding uses these boys as a scaled down model of what the world is like at war. Golding uses symbolism diction and allegory in "The Lord of the Flies" to prove that man, not natural causes, will lead to his own demise.…

In the first few chapters of Lord of the Flies, we learn of a group of boy’s plane crash and their struggle of surviving on a deserted island. Some of the characters step up and claim the role of a leader, such as Jack and Ralph. They form groups, and are given responsibilities such as hunting and building shelter; and try to survive with each other on the island. While reading Lord of the Flies, I have enjoyed some elements and not enjoyed other elements. Some of the elements I have enjoyed are the friendships that are forming and the boys’ ability to have leadership and to take care of themselves. An example of this is Ralph’s leadership. He is voted to be chief, and gives everyone their responsibilities and duties and makes sure things stay in order as much as he can. One element I have not enjoyed is the morbidness and the way the boys act sometimes. It is disturbing that the boys at such a young age are so focused on death. For example, Jack’s yearning to kill a pig and his outspoken aggression to the others. Another example is when one boy goes missing and no one bothers to even look for him, not much is even spoken about is disappearance. That seems very odd to me. Some allusions are beginning to surface in the first three chapters. One of the allusions is the beast. The beast is an allusion to the Garden of Evil and the serpent. It also represents the evil of human nature. So far, I have enjoyed the book thoroughly and I am interested to see what will happen next.…
