Human Trafficking
It’s hard to imagine yourself being kidnapped at any moment. Most people just ignore the fact that this is in fact a very real and common thing. The issue of human trafficking has been around for many years. Though you may be oblivious to it, it is all around you at every corner of the world we live in. Even though it seems obvious to see this as wrong, some people, like in the Netherlands, may disagree. “The US…recommended that prostitution be redefined as form of labor, and migration laws changed to allow a flow of women for prostitution”. This department must have given up on trying to demolish human trafficking. “We could create special permits that will allow foreign nationals to engage in prostitution”. This change would bring us back to the days of slavery when it was shown as “okay” in society. We’ve all had bad times in our lives when we had no idea how we were going to get through it. “Some entered the sex industry as a part of an economic strategy for supporting themselves and their families” (Peratis, Kathleen). There are those select girls that feel they need to do this for their family without even realizing what they are getting into. “Many have children, partners and parents whom they support through their work” (Peratis, Kathleen). Though they have good intentions, there is no way of telling how they will be treated and whether, if at all, they will be compensated for their work. These women and children are forcibly taken for the traffickers own wealth and put into the worse possible conditions that are almost unbearable. “Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, sexual exploitation, labor exploitation, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs” (Bakirci, Kadriye). It’s as if the world hasn’t learned anything from the past and from history, because the things we thought we conquered are still lingering around our own backyards. “Trafficted persons, especially women in prostitution and child laborers, are
