He thought people were not saved through their good deeds, but through faith in God. When the church started selling indulgences Luther was not happy about it. He wrote his ninety-five theses and nailed it to the church door and it spread throughout Germany. Luther believed there was no one but Christ between men and God so the Bishops and Popes were irrelevant. Luther stated the church was abusing their power by asking for money.
The printing press is an important piece of history from the Renaissance. Johannes Gutenberg and Johann Fust created a printing in 1446 and began printing the Bible. In 1455 the first copy of the Bible came out and it was the first printed book ever. This event was significant because people could get Bibles. It meant not just getting the information from the priest, but knowing the truth for themselves. The printing press passed knowledge around and caused people to think for themselves.
