Today’s teens understand dystopia as the world in which they are living (Henderson). However, this series helps them understand the side of humanity that dystopias deliver as “sermons” because of how passionately they are spoken (Henthorne). When one goes into a bookstore teens are bombarded with teen dystopian fiction because of how passionately authors are trying to get their point across to teens and young adults around the world (Penny). In a way I can definitely see the United States tuning into a dictatorship under our government. The United States government is starting to make sure they watch everything we do and in my opinion it is as if they are invading our privacy. They always tell us what to do and expect us to obey without argument. But when I can not even text someone without them seeing it, I do not appreciate it. What makes The Hunger Games unique is how it shows the true emotion in what it is like to be poor and go into the situation of “Can I get through this?” The Hunger Games shows a type of dystopia known as polemic. The Hunger Games is a controversial matter in that it does not just tell of political issues, it tells a story. “If we introduce kids to these ideas earlier, we could get a dialogue about war going earlier and possibly it would lead to more solutions.” (Biography.com)
In Mockingjay, Katniss kills Alma coin instead of President Snow, she puts an end to all of the misery the games had caused over 75 years. Alma Coin has been compared to many historical and political figures, such as Abraham Lincoln or Franklin Roosevelt, but the one that stands out the most is Winston Churchill. Coin, after all of the hostilities thrown onto District 13 by the Capitol, she remains to have the need for being in control, rather than breaking down. Churchill had the willingness to use his wartime powers against the enemies.
