Hybrid Cars- Persuasive Essay
Final Draft Re-write
9th grade English

Our world, our environment, what we live in is what you should start to care about. One way to start caring is to change the transportation you take; such as hybrid cars. Even though hybrid cars use gas, it will be better for our environment and will be able to prevent a smaller amount of pollution in the air. Many people do not realize it or might not even care, but if it goes on like this, our world would be very polluted; the air we breathe in will be even more contaminated; so stop driving conventional cars and go buy a hybrid car. First of all, with regular cars that are run by gas only; they leave excess gas into the air. With hybrid cars, you use electricity and they have a CO2 emission. A CO2 emission is an emission that would let carbon dioxide out which is also what we humans breathe out. The carbon dioxide would then be used from plants which provide oxygen for us. It is a cycle. A hybrid car is really helpful for our environment unlike regular cars. Hybrid cars also get better mileage. If you are thinking about going on a road trip, driving a hybrid car would be better because you would not need to refill the gas tank as much. They can run 50-60 miles per gallon and uses one-third of gases conventional cars use. You save so much! For the car battery of a hybrid car, you do not always have to charge it by plugging it in. The battery can also be charged by the kinetic energy it takes from braking while driving. Money is used in practically everything, so saving it would be useful for your future. Since the economy is not so well and prices are going up including gas price, you would want to save more money. In the year of 2009 the gas prices were around $2.60, in 2010 the gas prices went up to about $2.80 to $3.00. With the price increasing this much, you might want to re-think about driving a conventional car because with a conventional car, you will need to use more gas than a hybrid car. Some people may think that if they start to drive a hybrid car it would not make any difference. There are over 36 million people in just California, think about how many people there are in other states. It is not just you that’s harming our world, but many others.. Right now, there are rarely any people driving a hybrid car, but if news gets out about what conventional cars do to our world and if people actually start caring if would make a huge difference. Global warming is affecting our world big time. It is time for everyone to make a change in this. We should try to drive less and ride bikes, but what is better is we all start to drive a hybrid car. Hybrid cars are good for the environment and can prevent more contamination into the air we breathe in.

    * One of the unique features of a hybrid is that when you first put your foot on the gas pedal to get started from a stopped position, the electric motor is the first thing to engage. The advantage to this is that this is also the point in standard engines where they pollute the most. Also, a hybrid Camry engine shuts off when stopped so no fuel is burning and producing green-house gases. Because of these features, emissions from a hybrid can decrease by as much as 90 percent.…

There are several advantages to using alternative fuels or hybrid vehicles in a rental fleet. Some of these are company image, reduced spill hazard, and economic benefits. When considering the air quality an alternative fueled vehicle has lower emission levels than the traditional gasoline engine. Generally speaking, when a vehicle is first started the emissions released are at their highest for a gasoline engine. A vehicle that runs on natural gas creates a very low release of carbon while a hydrogen powered vehicle only produces water as a byproduct.…

With the evolution of hybrid vehicles some consumers have made a commitment to affect the environment in a very positive way. A hybrid car is a vehicle that combines two or more sources of power that can directly or indirectly provide propulsion power. Cities like Seattle have public busses that run on diesel but are also electric and powered by wires throughout the city. Once away from these wires, the diesel engine starts to function as a second contributor to the movement of the bus, but the electric engine is mainly functioning throughout the lifespan of these public busses. This system produces a minimum amount of negative carbon released into the atmosphere. Although cities have adopted this requisite, people are starting to adjust to it as well. Not only does owning a hybrid vehicle benefit the future, but also getting extraordinary mileage to the gallon is economical.…

While everyone acknowledges that it is a very efficient car, the question is whether or not it is worth it, due to the vary environmentally damaging processes that must undergo to produce it [4]. One of the main points in this debate is that the batteries, the things that make a hybrid efficient, are extremely polluting and dangerous, and the mining methods used to acquire the lead and other materials is a very environmentally degrading process [4]. With two distinct sides there is now a heated debate between petrol-heads and…

These hybrid car pose many environmental impacts such as smog producing gases. Hybrid cars can produce fewer gas emissions then conventional cars, but not less than we think. The issues with plug-in hybrid cars is that the electricity they use comes from our existing power grid. The most of our electricity comes from coal and a little from nuclear power, which is in fact nasty to our environment. A hybrid vehicle can be as much as 20 percent more expensive than conventional cars. To determine the actual fuel savings over a typical year of driving, compare the operating cost of a hybrid versus a standard model. A U.S. Department of Transportation summary, dated February 2003, reports the average American driver between the ages of 34 and 55 drives 15,291 miles annually (see References 4). Divide this annual mileage figure by 21 miles to the gallon for the standard model, and you will find that you would buy about 728 gallons of gasoline a year. In contrast, if you divide the annual miles figure by 30 for the hybrid, you would determine that the annual gas purchase…

It is also no secret that gasoline prices have steadily increased over the years, and four dollars a gallon does not exactly agree with our wallets. In an effort to "go green" and save money on gasoline, hybrid cars have recently become a great option for those interested in getting high gas mileage and saving lots of money… or so they think. Although hybrid cars have high gas mileage and extend the time between visits to the pump, reviewing the raw facts about hybrid cars while asking the question "Do hybrid cars seem like a money-saving solution?" is a wise decision.…

First, when purchasing a vehicle a consumer should not only be concerned with the purchase price, but with the cost of repairs as well. The initial cost of gasoline powered cars is around 75% lower than a hybrid for these reasons: hybrids have very expensive batteries, a different engine design which complicates manufacturing, and they are basically mobile computers that make them difficult to repair without special training. Regardless of which type of vehicle you own, many people think that the initial cost of a vehicle is bad enough and then something bad happens. Repairs can cause your wallet to take another large hit. Simple moving parts are bad enough when a door handle breaks off, but what if one of the computer parts fails or your electrical system has a malfunction? This happens with both gasoline and hybrid cars, but repairing your hybrid means twice the amount of money. For example, the battery in a hybrid has a limited shelf life and when it does need to be replaced it can cost from $3,000 to $6,000, but you can buy a…

Hybrid cars are controversial today because the hybrid cars still burn gasoline and emit greenhouse gases and they still have to use gasoline to power the battery. The hybrid only adds efficiency to the gasoline engine, instead of replacing it entirely. The hybrid car remains as a major emitter of pollution. While it may contribute less to global warming, it still contributes significantly. If people keep switching to hybrids over time yes the contribution towards global warming will less eminent, but it will still continue to pollute the…

Imagine a world where every Canadian winter is sunny and 70 degrees. While this might sound nice to Canadians who deal with brutal winters every year, this means that summers closer to the equator would be well over 100 degrees constantly. Rendering these places almost uninhabitable, our world would be in a crisis. Unfortunately, this is where our world may be headed one day, if we as humans don’t clean up energy consumption habits. One major contributing factor to global warming are the cars humans drive every, more specifically the engines that power them. Gasoline engines are a major problem because of the emissions they put into the atmosphere; however, electric engines and other alternatives may prove to be the future.…

The "fuel cell cars" currently being advertised are being touted as "having no emissions except water." In a limited sense that is, in fact, true. However, if the entire fuel cycle for the car is considered it most certainly is not. The fuel used by the fuel cell is hydrogen, very pure hydrogen. Combined with oxygen from the ambient air, the fuel cell produces electricity that powers an electric motor and other devices in the vehicle--just like the battery-driven electric vehicles already on the market. These don't produce any emissions at all. So far, so good. No complicated reciprocating engines, no noise, no smog, minimal maintenance, no global warming.…
