Throughout the book the pigs start to deem themselves as more valuable than the other animals when one of these commandments is that all animals are equal. The first thing that the pigs do when they establish that they will be the ones who lead the other farm animals start to establish themselves as a higher up on the farm. When Jones leaves there is the issue of the milk that is left over on the farm. Jones used to put the milk in the hens mash but no one knows what to do with it now since he is gone. Napoleon says that he will tend to the milk and when the animals got back It is later found out that the pigs put the milk in their own mash, and they even go so far to say that all the apples that fall on the ground from the apple tree are to be used exclusively for the pigs. The animals question this and Squealer tells everyone that apples and milk are good for the pigs and that many of them actually dislike milk and apples and even goes so far to say that he dislikes them himself. In the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, Squealer says, “Milk and apples (this has been proved by Science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well-being of a pig” (Orwell 36). We know that this is not true but since none of the other animals know any better they do not argue with Squealer. We see in the book what hypocrisy can do to leaders and how lies take over their leadership. Lies and hypocrisy can take over a system and corrupt the whole thing. It is so important that we see this because we need to be able to identify this in the real world and be able to stop corruption in leaders and in systems around the world.
