I Am Exceptional Application
Exceptional. I hear the word reiterated often in reference to myself. My test scores are exceptional. My grades, races time, the fact I have lived in 7 different states are considered exceptional. These numbers which often define my life are just a small factor into who I am as a person and a potential cadet at the Air Force Academy. Beyond the numbers, my unique experiences with life molded me into a strong, qualified person. I will not only excel at the Academy, but will advance the entire Academy as a whole because of my background.
One of the most impactful parts of my life is the military. As a military dependent, I was exposed early on to USAF, and the opportunities it offers. Surrounded by the military, inspires me to serve. Because of my father’s career, I received an unparalleled view of what military life entails beyond what the glamorous Hollywood movies depict. That valuable knowledge will enable me to focus on the grander picture while at the Academy. Additionally, the military relocated my family often. I have lived in seven different states, moved ten times, and attended ten schools. Moving was not easy, but I learned early on flexibility, reliance and determination. My decision to join the military in general I believe subconsciously started when my older brother returned from Army basic training. While my brother was a pretty smart guy he had never really been to apply himself nor did he have the drive to, but whatever had happened to him during army basic training had made a change in him; a change for the best. He came back and the transformation was evident in every single one of his actions and thoughts. He had a drive to accomplish all of his goals dreams and aspiration, not only that he had the discipline necessary to stay on his new found path. I went on to college in the fall fallowing his return from basic training not sure if these new traits and strength I saw in him would continue or disappear. When I returned home that fall after my first semester and talked to him and I saw the changes had stayed with him and grown even further. With all that he had used the tools he had been given to accomplish so much in already so little of time. All that stayed in my head, but it did not become relevant to me until my sophomore year of college. I realized that while I was…

Furthermore, what initially interested me in the naval service was my family's involvement in the military. Ever since I was a child, I was inspired to become a military officer knowing my father was a non-commissioned officer in the Coast Guard and when my sister commissioned into the Navy as an officer becoming head of the physician and medical department on Naval bases. I was then driven to pursue a similar ambition to strive towards serving my country in the Navy as a lifelong career. My father works for the Air Force and growing up around planes; I generated interest for flight and the science behind it. I became a Department of Homeland Security government employee because I believed in the mission and felt compelled to dedicate a portion of my life to see an impact on our society. I am proud to share the mission with my children and displaying patriotism. The most powerful words I heard from my son the day he graduated from high school was “Mom, I am and have been very proud of you because of the work and the dedication you have shown me. I want to enlist and also show my dedication and commitment to our nation.” His words brought tears to my eyes. At that moment I realized that my actions did not only influence me.…

All my life I have wanted to be affiliated in the military. Four to five years ago I had very low self confidence in myself and others and not very great aspirations. My plan was to enroll in the marines after high school and attain my college education from the military. My primary aspiration for my life was to exceed the achievements of my mother, who didn't graduate high school. I wanted to be able to say if I could do it why couldn't you? My mind and heart were consumed by the dreadful thought of my brothers and how they would never have the opportunities that I have been blessed with. It wasn't until I had opened up to my uncle Derek who is a marine that I had a change of…

Why I want to attend a Service Academy and why I feel that I am prepared to do so? I want to attend a service academy because it combines my desire to join the military, advance my education, and my desire to be the best that I can be. The academies are very prestige’s from what I gather and are ranked among the very top military colleges in the nation; that alone pecked my interest from the moment I heard of the academies. I have also wanted to be in the military from a very young age having great respect for the men and women who served in the armed forces. With these things in mind along with my desire to be the best that I can be the academies seemed like a no brainer. They have everything that I’m looking for a good education, military…

The Armed Forces is something my family is quite familiar with and has been an influential part of my life as a structure of leadership. My dad has told me a multitude of things he has experienced while in the Army and the opportunities given at hand when he was enlisted. I have also heard praises from many family members and family friends to the loved ones that have taken another step ahead by enrolling into college, and enhancing their leadership skills to become well renowned officers of the military. I will be taking this same road of success, but pushing it another level by applying for the NROTC, which will train my mind and body to guide others when I am commissioned into the Marine Corps.…

Besides seeing the country, the most important thing I gained from being in a military family was meeting people from all walks of life. Living in Southern California helped expose me to new cultures that I hadn’t experienced before, and going to school that was mostly comprised of Mexican-Americans allowed me to transcend any racial barriers at young age. It was at this small Catholic school that I met my closest friends and created my fondest memories during my childhood. The lifelong friends that my parents met are a still apart of my life, and I hope to be connected with their families in another fifty…

The reason why I chose to major in Counseling Psychology is because I think it fits my skills in listening and talking with people along with a desire to help and see improvement in people’s lives. My desire to help others find this happiness and self-satisfaction within themselves stems from a satisfaction in uncovering and giving back to the patient the greatness within themselves that I know is always there. I want to join the Air Force after college because I’ve always wanted to protect my country and those I love. This desire to enter the military is because I come from a long line of veterans, police, and other civil servants, along with this the military has always seemed a good way to gain leadership skills and to gain a better appreciation for what my country provides. I also want to serve because if I decide to become a full-time counseling psychologist a military background would make it easier to relate to the experiences of patients who are veterans. Also, a degree in Psychology would allow me to assist and better understand those who would be under my command and reinforce a greater sense of unity with my fellow service…

In my research on being an Oral Surgeon begun, all I knew was that they perform surgery on people's mouths.
