The aspect ratio may at first seem dismaying and unnecessary for the viewer, but once the purpose of them is revealed one cannot help but be in awe of Dolan who was only 24 at the time of Mommy’s release. The colors of the film features warm, pastel colors that serves as a driving force during emotional scenes and as a stark contrast during darker ones. The soundtrack is also particularly noteworthy as it features almost no original songs or pieces but is instead composed of a medley of hit songs. One example of this is the 1995 hit, WonderWall, by Oasis. Each song is strategically placed in the movie to maximize its effect but it is only evident in the second viewing that the lyrics to these songs each correspond to the time and place in the movie in which it is playing in.
