While living in this small town, he acquired the job of a schoolmaster. Ichabod was very fond of this job for many reasons, but particularly because at the end of each school day he would accompany a student home to eat dinner with their family in search of a wife. Although Ichabod never met the perfect wife for him at any of his scholar's houses he did meet an attractive young lady while teaching a choir, Katrina Van Tassel. “She would make an outstanding wife” Ichabod thought, and he was right.
