Identify And Explain The Five Basic Food Groups
The five basic food groups are starches, fruits and vegetables, dairy, meats/proteins, and fats and sugars. Starches are used in the body to supply carbohydrates for energy and for digestion, and hemoglobin production. Fruits and vegetables supply the body with vitamins and carotenes for the maintenance of skin, connective tissues, and bones. Dairy provides the body with the necessary materials to maintain and produce bone, muscle growth, tissue growth, and immune system. Meats and proteins supply the body with what it needs to produce blood, nerves, connective tissues, and overall body development and muscle function.
