If Jamaica Kincaid Analysis
The comparison and contrast of the two poems ‘’Girl’’by Jamaica Kincaid and ‘’If’’ by Rudyard Kipling. The poems is talking about parents who are giving advice to their kids. The topic and the theme are the same in my opinion, but the genders of the two kids are different. The topic is the same for both poems. I believe that the topic is parents giving advice to their kids. In the poem ‘’Girl’’ it talks about a mom giving advice to her daughter about life and how to do stuff by herself. In the poem ‘’If’’ it talks about a dad giving advice to his son. In the poem ‘’If’’ it states in stanza 12 it says’’and treat those two impostors just the same.’’ Which is the dad giving advice to his son. In the poem “Girl’’ it says “Wash your cloths on Monday and put them on the stone heap”which is telling her to do something and giving advice. …show more content…
The theme is if a parent giving good advice then the kid would use it in real life. This theme is the same for both because both of the parents were giving advice to their kids and I believe if the parent gives good advice then the kids we'll take it and use it in real life.In the poem ‘’If’’ it states the dad giving good advice to his son but ih the son doesn't like the advice or if the son doesn't know why then the son won't take the advice asme goes for the poem “Girl”is the daughter doesn't like the advice, then the daughter won't take the advice that the mother gives

Within every story or poem, there is always an interpretation made by the reader whether right or wrong. In doing so, one must thoughtfully analyze all aspects of the story in order to make the most accurate assessment based on the literary elements the author has used. Compared and contrasted within the two short stories, "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid, and John Updike 's "A&P," the literary elements character and theme are made evident. These two elements are prominent in each of the differing stories yet similarities are found through each by studying the elements. The girls ' innocence and naivety as characters act as passages to show something superior, oppression in society shown towards women that is not equally shown towards men.…

The general subject to both of these poems is the fact that they both have to do with love, and sex. Although in the poem To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time the writer is talking about all young girls to lose their virginity. I know it is directed to all young girls because in line 10 it states, “When youth and blood are warmer.” When he says “youth” he is talking about young girls. The poem To His Coy Mistress is talking about how the writer wants one,a certain girl in particular to have sex with him. He is doing all he by convincing her and trying his best for her to say yes. The tone creates a feeling of unease and discomfort, inviting readers to grapple with the conflicting emotions and moral ambiguities that lie in the poem. Moreover, the rhyme scheme of the poem heightens the theme of abuse and violence. The poem follows a rhyme scheme of ABAB, this structure establishes a view of lightheartedness and a sing-song tune. This mimics the momentum of a lively dance, such as the waltz.…

Between the two short story’s I read I found it easier to discover the theme from Two Kinds. In Two Kinds, it tells of a immigrant mother from China that desires the best out of her daughter. After all the various talents Jing Mei’s mother throws at her to learn, finally she settles on piano. In the story, there are two songs that they point out at the end of the story, these are the two types of daughter’s that Jing Mei was. The first being “Pleading Child” representing her being an obedient child, and respecting her mother, even though she had no desire to be what her mother wanted.…

The little girl in the poem is "friends" with a bully, and feels that she should act the same way because she doesn't know any other way. The little girl shows that she is far different than her friend Denise, as she says "a white girl," and says, "I sit behind her because of our names, O'Conner, Ozawa. " It is…

The two poems, “Popular Street” and “Second Thoughts on a Winter Afternoon”, share a similar concept: unconditional love between the mother and the child. The poems also indicate that the meaning of language changes by experience, as we get older. The author uses first person expressions throughout the poems to converse with someone in the poem. This demonstrates the emotional experiences he has with his mother while he is stepping into different stages of his life. The two poems demonstrate the love for their mother and the changes of language that shifted that they experienced throughout their lives.…
