The IGALI
-The Igali lives in the boreal forest in Eastern Canada.
Habitat
-The Igali takes shelter in cave surrounded by heavy rock. The Igali takes shelter in this cave because it keeps it cool during the summer months and keeps him warm during the summer months. Another reason it takes shelter in caves is because they provide protection from wolf packs. The Igali has adapted to its habitat in two ways, it has developed hooves sop it can easily walk around its cave without slipping. Also the Igali grows a much thicker fur to withstand the cold elements in the boreal forest during winter and sheds it during the summer.
Prey
-The Igali’s only predator is the wolf. The Igali’s main weakness was that it was easily attacked …show more content…
when hunted in packs. So the Igali has developed three adaptations to avoid being eaten by packs of wolves. The first is that the Igali has improved stamina, if the Igali gets attacked its first reaction is to run, its reaction is that because it can now outrun wolves with its improved stamina and make it back to its shelter where it stands a much better defending against wolves. The second is that it now has plates of body armor on all the major organs in its body (Neck, Stomach.) to protect it from the strong jaws of the wolf. The Igali’s last defense is its poisonous venom to protect the rear of the Igali in which armor can’t protect and the head and neck. When a wolf tries to bit the rear, neck, head they bite a poisonous spike killing it very quickly. Once the Igali has made adaptations the wolf must also adapt to stay alive and keep the ecosystem running. The adaptation that the wolves have made is that they are immune to the Igali’s venom making them much less vulnerable when attacking the Igali.
Predator
-The Igali is carnivore.
It feeds of brown bears in the boreal forest. Since bears are large animals and like to engage in battle when the Igali threatened has developed two structural adaptations. The first is that it has tusks on its head to ram the bear to the ground during battle. The second adaptation is its razor sharp claws to kill the bear once it has been rammed to the ground. Once the bear is dead the Igali uses its razor sharp teeth to eat it. After years of the Igali eating the brown bear the bears have developed two traits to avoid being eaten. The first is that bear has become much smarter; the bears have learned over the years that the Igali will win in a confrontation so they have stopped standing up to the Igali making it much harder for the Igali to hunt them. The second is that the brown bears have grown tusks and head armor also so when they do get in a confrontation the Igali will have a much better chance of winning.
Linking Concepts
-Bioaccumulation- the Igali is part of the third tropic level. When the Igali
Consumes the bear it only gets 1% of the initial nutrients from the first tropic level, The first
being the plant, but at the top is the wolf that only gets .1%.
-Food Web
-Symbiotic Relationships: The Igali is part of a commensalism relationship. The Igali is neither harmed nor benefitted. The Igali’s partner is the mouse the mouse is the one that benefits in this situation. The mouse takes shelter in the Igali’s cave using the heat from the Igali to stay warm, and the Igali doesn’t mind.
Short Story- Igali’s Day.
-The Igali decides to venture out of its cool cave to go to the river to find something to eat. Soon enough the Igali came across a bear snacking on some fish and berries. He stalked it getting in close enough to attack, and attack he did, the Igali rammed the bear with its tusk the bear didn’t stand a chance. When the Igali’s was about to kill the bear with its razor sharp claws, a pack of wolves surrounded the Igali. The Igali defended of the pack one wolf bounded for the Igali’s stomach but its teeth was no match for the Igali’s chest armor another wolf tried to clamp down on the back of the Igali’s neck but came up short and got injected with venom. The Igali then ran all the way back to its cave. The wolves chased but were no match for the Igali’s stamina. Now in its cave the wolves weren’t able to make an attack as a pack, the wolves then proceeded to back down.
