than one version of every story and hearing them all will shed true light on the issue at hand.
How issues effect one person might have a completely different impact on another, these are perspective notions that should be kept in the forethought of our minds when dealing with issues that affect groups of people. Humans are all the same, we have the same genetic makeup, our differences stem from our customs, believes, and what we embraced for a moral compass. Gaining perspective aids in communication both personally and professionally, having the ability to truly listen and relate to another person’s ideas and perspective is priceless. Education is a key factor in comprehension, tolerance and acceptance, being resourceful to research information for facts provides sound information to make decisions. As I take several classes, my mind has broadened from the experience, the diversity of individuals I have met during my time in school has given me a far different perspective than when I began. Sociology has added key factual points to what my mind has wrapped around through …show more content…
experience and learning.
The three theory’s (conflict, symbolic, and functionalism) breaks down social issues into compartments of understanding that filters the information in a systematic way to make sense.
Social issues fall into one of these three theories and breakdown into an understanding, reading a person’s facial expressions or the emotion they show while relaying information does not always provide us with enough back-ground information to understand where someone is coming from. Recognizing fallacies when in discussions or arguments give clues as to what the person speaking motives truly are, fallacy recognition can provide an incite but not a solution. Solutions can only come from a place of compassion and understanding to benefit more than one person. The main asset taken from this class would be, that my life is nice compared to the difficulties others face. The issue in flint humbles me, knowing there are people that do not have access to clean drinking water is disturbing. Slavery in different forms still exists, as does human trafficking, there are humans suffering every day. There are humans that must fight to get an education, walk miles to the nearest school, study in the dark with a dim lantern. They fight family, customs and poverty, just to learn to read and write, things I take for granted that was just given to me water, shelter, a decent meal. Most of us do not think of how blessed we are, to have such luxuries, because of an ignorant perception that it’s normal. An
example of my ignorance, I didn’t mean to take for granted my ability to read and write, given to me simply because I am an American child, and our society see’s value in education for girl and boy children. There is suffering in the world and the biggest social issue is to ignore issues, pretending they are not our problem. Suffering of other people is our problem and we have a moral obligation to help any way we can. My classmates had amazing stories they shared, its bizarre how we all had the same topic to pull from, yet our stories were all very different as was our perception of the material. I enjoyed reading what my classmates had to share giving me a different angle to look at issues from. Often I was surprised in different topics to find information I had not thought of myself. The structure of our class made it easier to learn in different ways the important material and gain knowledge and perspective. I wouldn’t change how this class was taught at all. There were a few times when there was difficulty getting to the videos required to watch but that happens with videos. I enjoyed this class and I gained knowledge I will keep with me forever. I don’t know what I could have done differently to gain any more knowledge than I have from this class. I took this class very seriously and embraced the topics and dove into each subject willing to learn and understand. Maybe a couple team’s assignments to get to know some of my classmates and work on communication through the internet. That in its self sounds like a big challenge, yet it would have been a learning experienc
