Some immigrants are paid with cash “under the table”(Barbour 34). Therefore, they are not required to pay for social security or income taxes. Consequently, this shows that illegals have cheated the economy. Governor Wilson said, “The benefits for illegal immigrants cost his state 2.4 billion in tax money” (Friedman). According to this, immigrants use up a sum of money, causing a deficit to the economy. The American workforce is made up of mostly immigrants. They will take jobs that the average American would not dare to take for such as the following: harvesting crops and working in factories (Barbour 28). Barbour also states,”They work as cheap labor, the low wages are a fortune to them” (28). Although they may not make much money, the immigrants can make it work. Some immigrants are hardworking and will continue to carry on through poor conditions. In conclusion, illegal immigration in the U.S. is growing rapidly, damaging the economy, and causing an enormous amount of violence and drugs.
