A single parent’s claim for Income Support from the Department of Works and Pensions.

A customer hands in his completed Application form for Income Support, containing all of the details needed by the relevant sections, to the Receptionist at their local branch of the Department of Works and Pensions (DWP).
Initial processing.
The new claim is collected from the counter by an Administrative Assistant (AA), who checks if the customer has an existing or previous claim for benefit. If they do he looks for the case-paper in the filing system, otherwise he makes up a new case-paper and enters it into the filing system computer that keeps track of the status and whereabouts of all the case-papers within the office. Internal Direct Payments section – the Direct Payments section will check if the customer owes the Agency any money, if so this should be deducted from the customer’s entitlement to benefits.
External City Council Housing Benefits department – the customer may be entitled to Housing Benefits so the AO of the new claims department will forward the attached claim to the City Council who will deal with it.
Now that all of the other sections have done their own processing of the customer’s data, the AO will analyse all the information and make an initial decision as to whether or not the customer is entitled to benefits and if so which ones and how
