In N.T. Wright’s book Simply Jesus, he tries to bring to light the character of Jesus, attempting to articulate both who he was, is, and his mission. He draws mostly from the gospels - though he borrows from other books as well - to paint this picture. Wright argues that the perception of Jesus has become muddled as culture and history have distanced themselves and confusion has ensued over the actions of Jesus, as they quite contradictory to general expectations. He calls for liberals and conservatives alike to quit arguing so as to come to agreement on what really matters, the facts rather than their interpretation. So much of the gospels could be described as symbolic, it is hard to understand with certainty…

The similarities between these two works of art are profound. They both show the overwhelming devastation of Mary's face looking upon her deceased son. Christ, her son, displays a peaceful expression on his face in both of the works. The body of Christ is laying in a limp fashion across the legs of his mother, who is sitting upright on a bench. The artists also show Mary dressed in heavy clothing which drapes over…

If the cliché of “a picture is worth a thousand words” is true, then artists are faced with a predicament of creating a picture that exemplifies the right thousand words. Artists such as the anonymous artist who created “The Page with Christ Washing the Feet of His Disciples” are valuable to authors of sorts to communicate to the audience visually. Whether it is to be communicated to young children, the public, or college students, a visual representation should stimulate a story in the mind of the viewer. The relationship between word and image is a major area of study in the discipline of art history. Through the analysis of a painting in the Gospels of Otto III, “Christ Washing the Feet of His Disciples” I will compare and evaluate the similarities between these two forms.…
