It acts as a barrier between family members. This is also demonstrated in modern times due to electronic devices. People waste their time in front of the screens, most of the time. Looking at African veldt and scenery, David McClean explains, “You’ve let this room and this house replace you and your wife in your children’s affections” (Bradbury 111). I even catch myself turning to technology rather than engaging with my family, because it requires less effort. However, this is so harmful to my family and me, as well as the rest of society, because it will eliminate face-to-face communication and reduce it to online conversations. Although this means of communication appears to be more efficient, it weakens the bond that bind people together by crippling their social skills. The truth is that technology debilitates the transfer of real emotions and expressions that can only be achieved through physical interaction, resulting in the decline of human capabilities.…

I carry my car keys and try not to hit the curb again and embarrass myself. I carry pride in who I am and hope to become in the future, but also kindness for others and the morals of doing the right thing. My past, memories, and pictures guide me into the future and offer me comfort in my journey. If I was not going to be back for a year, I would carry photographs of my family and friends so I would remember the amazing moments in those pictures. Their love I will carry with me that year and feel the love in my heart from those moments captured in the photos.…

    Isolated by the Internet

“Isolated by the Internet” an essay written by Clifford Stoll pinpoints exactly what researchers believe the internet is doing too much of today’s society. Stoll explains in detail that Internet is breaking apart family values, slowing personal interaction, distancing reality, and robbing personal time. Clifford Stoll has provided evidence that the internet is breaking apart many families and distancing them from one another. For example, Stoll expresses that many parents bring their work home, and spend only six to eight minutes a day talking with their children (106). Furthermore, Stoll states that productivity in the home takes away from playtime that even in our alone time work seeps into even the most intimate of moments (107,108). Although internet is a fast, aid in society it can also slow basic personal interaction “These electronic intermediaries dull our abilities to read each other’s gestures ad facial expressions, to express our feelings, to strike up conversations with strangers, to craft stories, to tell jokes” (106). Clifford Stoll states that it causes a person not to learn basic skills such as how to interrupt, how to speak in front of a large audience, or worst when to talk or be silent. (107) He brings in psychologists and scientist points of view that contradict significantly with those of major computing companies. For example Stoll references to psychology professor Philip Zimbardo who states that technological advances cause shyness which is a basic lack of communication skill, where as Intel stated “This is not about the Technology, per se; it’s about how it is used (105,106). Stoll uses Zimbardo’s personal account to explain computer isolation, Zimbardo will occasionally walk down the hallway and say hello and to some this is shocking and feels it is invading their space (110). The inability to communicate is in part due to the isolation of internet. Clifford Stoll insinuates that…

Technology is a notion that will never end. New devices will be released and then advanced endlessly. It changes society by altering the environment in which individuals adapt. Technology now is a concept that individuals cannot survive without; an average person needs technology, to eat, to entertain, to cook, and to do many other daily functions. Let’s face it, individuals need technology to survive. But this is to an extent, for example a computer can be one of man’s best friends, it helps us write documents, it helps us obtain knowledge through the internet, such as searching Wikipedia, and it helps us entertain ourselves with games, movies, and music. But the computer can also have side effects to our behavior, and even to our appearance as Richard Restak, professor of neurology suggests in his article “Attention Deficit: The brain syndrome of Our Era.”. Some individuals get so entangled in this technology that their eating and sleeping habits change as do their behaviors. The Internet actually detracts from the communication abilities of society, especially the young. When individual’s communication skills are gradually lessened, they begin spending less time talking to their family, experiencing more daily stress, and feeling more lonely and depressed. In constructive teen years, lack of personal communication due to excessive Internet usage can have an overall negative effect on mental and physical health. Communication skills are critical for everyone, yet use of the Internet is undermining this development. The growth of technology has negatively influenced the social interactions of today's society because it isolates individuals from reality, and hinders communication and understanding.…

With the growth of new technology and the Internet, many people prefer to take their work home with them. This becomes a problem when separating the work life from the home life. Kelton Research found that 65% of U.S. consumers are spending more time with their computers than with their significant others (“8 in 10”). This statistic is far too high. Technology cannot, and should not, replace human interaction. What does this do to the face to face connection we have with our families; or in that matter, with people in general? Many people find themselves using the computer for a good portion of their day and admit that their computer use is as much a part of their daily routine as going to the bathroom or sleeping. I fear that as the years progress and technology follows its current exponential growth, this number will continue to rise, and personal interaction will be lost.…

"Technology is part of everyday life, and it can easily mediate or even replace other types of experiences. C.P. Snow once said, “[It] is a queer thing. It brings you great gifts with one hand, and it stabs you in the back with the other.” (Technology-The Great Enabler, 2003) As we dissect Snow’s observation it is very evident in the world we live in works because of technology. Looking at a few examples like, work, school, media and all of our hobbies are technology related. By the help of technology, a message can be delivered from one side of the planet to the other in no time. Contrastingly, technology can also destroy the planet and its living beings by the use of one powerful nuclear weapon. The rapid increase in technologies are making human nation forget that we are born in nature. In the same context, communication technology also presents its pro’s and con’s. The question that “is technology tearing apart family life and relation?” is a very interesting topic, yet a very delicate one. By the studies conducted no definite answer comes through; however by looking at the research, theories and results provided it can be said that it does more good to the relation of the family then bad. Therefore, it is safe to say, technology is improving and increasing family relations among children and parents, especially through the communication modes of texting, social networking and video chatting.…

Today, technology is becoming more widespread. More and more people are becoming dependent on technology. Most jobs require the use of technology. Technology has increased over the years until many people cannot do their jobs without it. However, technology is a good thing; one may wonder if it had replaced many human beings in the workforce including e-mailing, cell phones, computers, internet, and video conferencing. Technology is apparent in every aspect of life. It had changed everyday’s living thing dramatically, both in positive and in negative ways. Technology, especially the Internet, has made information a much quicker and easier process and that makes humans rely on the internet too much, in other word, they are getting lazy. In the past, when we want to obtain information it required days or even weeks of research in the library, now a day we can just Google it and tons of information will pop up.…

    Are Computers Necessary?

One really big factor which makes computers irreplacable for many people is: you have access to the internet. In the internet, you can find almost anything you want, be it information, pictures or videos. Sure, in the "real life", as internet-users call it, you can lend books from the nearest library and get your information from there. However, this information might not be valid anymore, or you want just one small bit of information. You just could not search for it in a 200-pages book (it would take too long), whereas you can search for it in the whole internet with the help of a search engine - taking you less than a second.…
