Things I Carry
The things I carry are an essential part of my life and who I am today. From when I was little to the present, I carry things that impact who I am as a person and who I will become as I grow older. They offer clarity and comfort. I carry the memories of when I was younger. These memories create moments of laughter, tears, smiles, and complete happiness. My memories stay with me and allow me to learn and grow as a person. As I learn each day and walk through the halls of BVNW, I carry the weight of my backpack. It feels like 20 pounds of rock. These rocks represent a massive amount of homework, pages of books to read, and the amount of documents on my computer. I carry the weight of stress to get good grades. I carry special moments in students' …show more content…
I carry my car keys and try not to hit the curb again and embarrass myself. I carry pride in who I am and hope to become in the future, but also kindness for others and the morals of doing the right thing. My past, memories, and pictures guide me into the future and offer me comfort in my journey. If I was not going to be back for a year, I would carry photographs of my family and friends so I would remember the amazing moments in those pictures. Their love I will carry with me that year and feel the love in my heart from those moments captured in the photos. It helps me to be grateful for the things I have. I would carry a case of Diet Dr. Pepper because I have an obsession and familiar comfort with having a pop. I don’t think I could live without it. I would carry my Bible, so I could stay strong and faithful wherever it leads me. I would carry the present because often I look too much into the future or live too much into the past. I want to focus on the here and now. I would try to take out any regrets I have had because I would not want to worry about the past, but rather learn from

The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien is a series of short stories that focuses on the lives of a platoon of soldiers during the Vietnam War, the items they carry; both mandatory and not, and how they deal with the hardships while serving. Of course the items that these military men are required to carry are extremely important to their survival, I have chosen to focus more on the smaller more personal items, most being the emotional baggage they carry.…

In the short story “The Things They Carried” Tim O’brien uses physical objects that each solider is carrying to try to give us a glimpse of their lives and some insight into their personalities. Most of the things the soldiers carried were determined by necessity, such as can openers, heat tabs, helmets and canteens of water. (269). While the reasoning for O 'brien 's “The Things They Carried” is to speak about the physical objects each soldier carried with them, the internal things they carried were much more meaningful.…

The Things They Carry is a very interesting book telling of war stories which may or may not be true.As the stories go on it tells some things about the soldiers and the things they carry.I believe in the story that everything they carry are either very meaningful to themselves or a necessity.Everyone carries something. Jimmy cross carries his photos of Martha, The men carry can openers, Knives, Kool-Aid, and water, but almost everyone humps (carries) photos of girls, of family, and of friends.Although the men carry these things they also carry things based on superstition.…

The items that the soldiers carried with them are both symbolic and physical items and what these things are depends upon the individual soldier. They carry the basic necessities for survival and the bare minimum to make their life as livable and comfortable as possible. In “The Things They Carried,” a short story by Tim O’Brien, the reader is able to see, in great detail, each of the characters ways of dealing with the atrocities of the Vietnam War by what they choose to carry; how symbolically they use these objects as a means for remembrance of what they have left behind, to escape what they deal with each day, and for some, a false sense of security and/or control over the violence and death that surrounds them.…

Looking at the title alone, the reader can safely infer that something is being carried, and that's exactly what O'Brien writes about. The book shows two different types of baggage, physical and intangible. Some of the physical items include books, gear, and mementos while the intangible things range from guilt to love. The importance of these various items outline who each character is. Besides carrying their gear, each solider carries fear and sadness for their safety and for those who they long to see. But, the main character Jimmy Cross carries more than the rest of his men; he carries the responsibility of keeping these men safe and keeping them alive. As the story progresses, there are comparisons between war and love relating to the physical objects that are being…

I learned how to appreciate things in life. One memory would be when the cold crisp air hit my skin when I watched the sun rise in the mountains. There was a comfortable silence among the whole campground while the adults sipped their morning coffee and the children were silently watched the bunny rabbits bounced near the tents. I also learned to be grateful in everything in life such as the materialistic objects that I got for my birthday or for Christmas.…

I also have taken to carrying items that I think the needy may be able to use. I carry hats and socks and gloves and an umbrella. Recently I put together some care packages for the homeless. It occurred to me that things like band-aids, toothpaste, aspirin, combs, as well as food would be of use. I imagined that they would need things to be non-breakable, so I chose plastic or paper containers. The folks who received them were delighted.…
