The influx of immigrant laborers into the community has disrupted current housing plans. A major concern is to find adequate shelter for the group of laborers. Although they lack skills viewed as “competitive” in the work field, two remedies to this problem have been created. The first is to teach the laborers basic English words and phrases similar to Matilde Parada. By doing this, the laborers are given a chance help ease their transition into our community through a fundamental skill such as communication. The second solution is to hold weekly skill building sessions at the local recreation center. In the curriculum for the sessions, the laborers will be able to chose from a variety of trades to pursue such as automotive mechanic, carpentry, and electrician. Personally, I would volunteer to teach English to the laborers as it will allow me to make a difference in within these individuals.
Accepting a vast number of immigrant laborers to the community is a difficult challenge. Although, one may think that it is easier to just ignore them or ban all immigrants into the community, this would not be ideal.
