Immigrants truly believe that coming to America could open a diverse of opportunities for them. One of the most compelling debates facing American public education today is the issue of access for undocumented immigrants. Rights of undocumented or illegal immigrants is a polarizing issue due to political and economic factors. A 1982 U.S. Supreme Court decision entitled illegal immigrants to public education from kindergarten through high school; 50,000 to 70,000 graduate from U.S. high schools each year (Holland, G., 2008). The objective of this paper is to analyze the pros and cons of undocumented immigrants receiving public education.…
There are thousands of undocumented students from different countries that migrate to the United States of America seeking a better way of life; however, the reality of that being possible is unlikely high. According an activist from the Lulac Association, over three million students graduate from U.S. high schools every year. Most get the opportunity to pursue a college degree, strive for their vocational goals, and reach for their American dream. Unfortunately, there are many students that see their dreams go down the drain for not having the right documentation to obtain a job and/or go to school. That is the main reason why undocumented students who are pursuing a higher education must be able to apply for a visa that can allow them to work on their field of study as well as to get financial aid, pay taxes, and become productive citizens who contribute to this country.…
All around the United States, there are students receiving these “Participation trophies” for just showing up at an event. Is this right or wrong? These schools, as well with many other youth associations, are rewarding children trophies. There are many statistics that show both sides of this argument. People are starting to take things too far with the whole “reward everyone” and leaving no children or adults out of an event. It’s getting ridiculous. So the question being asked here is “Should kids get a trophy for participation?” and here is my answer.…
Many people can protest as much as they want but it must not disturb the state of calm in the state. Limits to rights defuses any potential harm that can happen although there is criticism indeed. There are many types of speeches each can be allowed with limited aspects in a school the rules are simple behave and do not cause a disturbance. In the Tinker V. Des Moines cases a group of kids wore the armbands that was controversial to some member of the faculty. The students accused the school of infringing their 1st Amendment rights. The students were simply stating their own opinion for themselves although it may have disrupted student it did not stop the educational process. The rights of students is very limited punishments are announced…
“The terms “illegal immigrant” and “illegal alien” are commonly used phrases that refer to the illegality of the action of migration without legal authorization” (wikipedia). Whether or not illegal immigrant children should be educated at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels in the U.S., is a fiercely debated topic these days. Many debates are taking place all over the U.S. pertaining to whether or not illegal immigrant children are entitled to a free public education. One major debate taking place here in Arizona is that Governor Napolitano and “its controlled Legislature are locked in a stalemate…
Imagine a person that wanted to get out of a place where they know that they have no future in. That person aims to go to a place where their dreams will be accomplished and a place where they know they will have a better future but when the person gets there, that is all crushed. That person finds out that people treat them differently based off of where they come from. The person doesn’t get the same rights as everyone else does because they are immigrants. What would you feel like if you were someone like that? People feel horrible when this happen. Immigrants are affected by this. Unequal rights affect for immigrants affects everything like for example other people's action, health care, bullying, jobs, and a problem to our society. This…
Since the founding of the United States, more than 55 million immigrants from every continent have settled here. Every wave of immigration has faced fear and hostility from both ordinary citizens and government especially during times of economic hardship, political turmoil or war. Coming to the United States, Immigrants do not receive the same amount of rights that actual citizens do. One of the many things immigrants lack in the United States is the right to an education. Today immigrants face a great amount of troubles. These troubles are very similar to the ones the Jews faced during the Holocaust. These troubles have definitely gone against the catholic social teachings that are in todays society.…
For Hispanic students even though in 1968 the Bilingual Education Act was enacted for school districts to provide services for English language learners many schools today do not have the resources service the large numbers of students. As noted by National clearing house for English Language Acquisition (n.d.) states that 10.3% of student body in public schools are ESL students. Moreover, U.S. Department of Education project this number to increase to 25% in forth coming years ( Spelling, 2005.) Many students are receiving an education they cannot understand, so they resort to leave school. Schools today are not considering that intersectionality of language being a success barrier for students, yet that is a major obstacle for students of…
Children born of illegal immigrant parents should be denied rights to United States citizenship. A crucial reason that these "anchor babies" should not receive citizenship is because of population count. As more and more of these kids are born the more people are using America's resources. Over 500,000 children of illegal immigrants were born on United States soil in 2005 who were legal citizens just because of place of birth.…

Question: Do you think that people from certain ethnic backgrounds should be given greater access to education? Food, water and shelter are basic needs for a human. We need them to keep ourselves alive. However, nowadays, there is also a need for education to make sure we can survive on this earth. People need education to become knowledgeable. With knowledge, we will able to work for our basic needs. As education is essential to everyone, should people from certain ethic backgrounds be given greater access to education than the others? In my opinion, everyone should be given an equal chance to access education, as everyone possesses equal human rights. Discrimination should not be practiced. Everyone has the right to obtain education and there should not be an unfair distribution of education. In addition, giving people from certain ethnic backgrounds greater access to education will results in wider income gaps between ethnic groups. For ethnic groups that attain better access to education, they are more knowledgeable than ethnic groups that do not have the advantage to access to better quality of education. With more knowledge, they will able to acquire better jobs with higher salaries. Their income will be greater than the others. Besides, a country that gives all its ethnic groups even access to education will have a better image in others countries. When all the ethnic groups get equal access to education, the country will be more civilized as all of its civilians are educated well. Hence this will portray a model country whereby; different ethnics groups are able to excel despite their differences. In conclusion, everyone has equal rights. Therefore, there should not be discrimination of ethnic groups where only certain ethnic groups are given greater access to education. Governments should provide education to all their citizens to decrease the illiteracy rate in their countries and hence improve the living standards of their countries.…
