Immigration Changes In America

Immigration affects many people. At first immigration was slaves coming over to work. At that time, it was african american slaves from Europe. Since then, many things have changed with the immigration process. In this century, immigration occurs almost completely because of war or political issues. It is vital to know why people immigrate, how it affects those around them, and things the immigrants possess or do not possess.

There are multiple reasons that people immigrate. “Throughout history, people have left their native lands for a variety of reasons: religious or racial persecution, lack of political freedom, economic deprivation.”( Britannica 399) In many countries, people are leaving because it’s not good for them to live there anymore. In places like the middle east, people are trying to leave because of terrorists like Isis. Terrorists are the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes. Also in the middle east, there was the taliban which was a large group or multiple smaller groups that tried to take over countries in the middle east. They captured villages and killed many people to punish others for their actions.
“ Refugees are admitted to the united states based upon an inability to return to their home countries because of a “well-founded fear of persecution” due to their race, membership in a particular social group, political opinion, religion, or national origin.” ( American Immigration Council) In the twenty-first century, people everywhere are being criticized for many things. The most common being gender, race and religion. All around the world, people are leaving their home countries and going into different countries for safety. Most of these immigrants possess a green card, which allows them legally to come into the other country and live there until they feel safe to go back.
