Frederick Kosciusko. Steerage is not very pleasing place to be. It smells like dead rats, and spoiled food.
The conditions for where I live aren’t the cleanest I think there is a stain on a sheet. Poland is a beautiful country, from what I have heard America should be to. While on the RMS PolGermEng, I spent the time trying to figure out I would do in America. The time on the boat is only 1½ days to Southhampton, UK, where I will switch to another boat. The food they served was ham and bread. I slept on top of a sheet instead of using the stained one. After a couple of hours the boat smelled like vomit from people getting motion sickness. This boat ride wasn’t as long as I thought. After I got on the Scythia I realized how much I miss
Poland already. The food is some type of a goolash, I miss the Polish dishes of Pierogi(dumplings), Bigos
(sauerkraut), and Koblet Schabowy(pork). I made a call to my friend Frederick back in Poland, before I left
Southhampton to head to La Coruna. The boat was very cramped, there wasn’t much room to walk around. I got an acute form of motion sickness while on the boat, because of the rocking from a storm. I can’t wait till I
the statue of liberty. As we left La Coruna, I realized I could hardly stand the ride with the joy of going to America.
While on Procand, the name of the ship, I played solitaire or go fish with others. During my time on the ships I got used to horrid seawater smell. From time to time I would go up from steerage to see the sky, and get some long needed fresh air. As Procand neared the Statue of Liberty I realized that we made it to America. The sight was very beautiful. I couldn’t help, but cry after the books, torch, and crown were completely visible to me. Lady Liberty meant that our long voyage to America was almost complete.
