A Shining Affliction has now and forever changed my views of Psychology as a whole. This book has set many things straight in regards people are treated because many times psychiatrists and patients are manipulated on TV to suffice to the crowd. Before, I read this book I believed that it was unacceptable to let you touch or comfort the person. However, this is only acceptable in certain situations because at times it is necessary for the therapists to detach themselves from what they are doing. This mostly for their safety and also the patients because if they get emotionally attached it could ruin the progress or even lead to other things. Without doubt, learning about this has changed my perspective, how disorders affected peoples lives, especially in Annie and Ben’s situation. Something about how Annie explains, interacts, and integrates the readers in her story/book drew me into thinking that even people with her background could do this is must be a tough field. Furthermore, it made me realize how people are affected by disorders of childhood and/or trauma. …show more content…
Even thought, I cannot fully comprehend why bad things happen to innocent people and why God allows this I believe in some way and form there is a purpose. Blumenfeld as mentioned above is a guardian angel of a sort because at one point in the book Annie sees Telesporus. Which as Blumenfeld is the blue screen that people like her see and others don’t. Certainly, this could be a reflection on how God lets those who are hurt see more than regular people do. Nevertheless, I do believe God is with everyone, but I cannot grasp how he can allow people like this to be mentally tortured by their past. In conclusion, this book has changed my views, perspectives, and knowledge about Psychology and the work of psychiatrists. Honestly, the work that these people do it something that is not acknowledged
