Some may say that Imperialism, especially through the eyes of the imperialists, is taking over one country to make it a much better place to live. Most history books would indeed agree to this. This may be beneficial to the country taking over but for the country being taken over, it is not. We have only been shown one side of the coin. They must give little to no mention of the consequences that may emerge. “Petals of Blood” took place shortly after Africa got its independence from Great Britain. Government officials Wilson, Shah, Muragi and Omolo came and promised the people of Illmorog great change. They have promised urbanization and to make Illmorog a much better place to live overall. They only need a few acres of land and to register their lands to acquire title-deeds which would be used as security with the banks. How Illmorog went from a dust bowl to an almost full blown city within such a short time is just mind boggling for the citizens because they haven’t seen anything like it. Instead of fighting against poverty, it is fighting for poverty. The people of Illmorog have lost their homes, businesses, jobs and much more. KCO have promised development and they did give Illmorog development. They just weren’t specific for whom they are giving development for. It certainly wasn’t for the citizens. According to the “Development of Corporate Governance Regulations” essay, emerging third world countries have two forms of governance. One of them is a stockholder or ‘market-based’
