Importance of Chefs Uniform
The Importance of A Culinary Uniform In The Kitchen. A chef’s uniform consists of a toque (a chef’s hat), double breasted jacket, checkered pants, apron, and non slip shoes. Each one of these items plays a very important role in the safety of a chef in the kitchen. The hat, double breasted jacket, checker pants, non slip shoes, and apron all play an essential role and have their own piece of history behind why there worn in the kitchen. The uniform was a way to show unity in the kitchen and certain parts in the uniform are to show the different ranks in the kitchen brigade.

The wearing of a chef’s uniform dates back to the mid 19th century. The popular French chef Marie-Antoine Careme is credited for developing the current chef’s uniform. The white chef’s coat is meant to signify cleanliness. The chef coat plays a key role in the uniform of a chef. The white double breasted chef’s jacket is reversible so the person wearing it can hide stains. Because before there were washing machines the chefs would get there jackets dirty and could unbutton the jacket and button it back up on the other side. It kept the chef’s looking clean and presentable when making messy dishes before going out into the ding room to receive compliments on their dish. The thick material in the jacket is meant to protect the body from high heat in the kitchen as well as boiling liquids. Surprisingly the knotted buttons on the chef’s jacket plays a specific role as well. The knotted buttons on the jacket, there main purpose is to keep the jacket closed. There also meant to survive the frequent washing of the uniform. The apron being worn apart of the chef’s uniform is just kind of like another form of protection for keeping your uniform clean. Now in modern times in the kitchen checkered pants are hardly worn. Now a day’s chef’s just wear pants that are comfortable. Like jeans, dress pants, or just some form of long pants that are comfortable. Not

Imagine living in a society where your social and economic rank determined the type of clothing you could wear. Quite frankly, I would not have survived in a society that dictated what I can or cannot wear. I would feel suppressed, as if someone was taking away my freedom. I strongly believe that what we wear defines us more than we think. In other words, fashion is an expression of who we are as an individual. However, this was not the case during the medieval period. The clothing in medieval Europe was dictated by the Pyramid of Power or a feudal system. Fashion during the medieval period was not just only about clothing, rather it dealt with economic…

In the article "The sad truth about saggin' pants" by Judge Greg Mathis has open my eyes to some of societys flaws today. I never noticed how something as small as wearing the pants a certain way can have so much history along with it. When I seen the fashion of "saggin' pants" come into style I wasn't sure if should follow along with it because I wasnt sure where the style itself has come from along with others. Judge Mathis is right when he states his claim that todays socitey has no idea as to where the style has orginated from because if they did many of todays urban and suburban sociteys wouldn't dress the way they do. I feel as though nowadays with society becoming harsher people feel as though they need to dress the way do to fit in with a crew or gang because apperance these days means more than it should.…

Toward the end of the 1770s, a new type of dress for boys began to emerge. Knee breeches were cast off in favor of trousers, which were emerging for the first time as acceptable fashionable dress. Trousers, buttoned together at the waist, were accompanied by a short jacket, an outfit that became known as a skeleton suit and usually worn with a soft fall collar shirt. At the same time it became fashionable for young girls to wear light unboned muslin frocks, short sleeved with a natural waistline and adorned with a simple ribbon sash about the waist. These new styles…

Most New England Colonists didn’t have a preference in what they wore. In Jamestown, colonists wore fancy clothes, while others wore tattered clothes with an interest in only finding gold and becoming rich. In the early 1700’s, men wore ruffs. Women wore frames formed of wood or whalebones underneath their dresses. Soon after, ruffs evolved into larger lace collars, although not many could afford such expensive clothes! As the 17th century went on, men began to wear knee length garments called “breeches.” They also wore long stockings and boots. They wore linen shirts and a kind of jacket called a “doublet” with a cape on the top. Men grew out their hair and grew beards. The doublet soon was replaced by the waistcoat. Men wore a frock coat over the waistcoats. Colonists used vegetable dyes to make bright colored clothes.…

If someone asked me what my favorite type of apparel worn on the bottom half of my body was, I would probably say leggings or jeans. If you looked at most of my leggings, you would notice that they have holes in them and are worn out. That’s because I love to wear them. Luckily, jeans are stronger. On a regular basis, I never would choose to wear a skirt. But things weren’t always this way. Not until the world met Amelia Bloomer.…

Social rituals, especially the custom of formal visiting, dictated the use of each of these dresses, or gowns, as the fancier garments were called. Women also wore suits, with shirtwaists (blouses), and had sporting clothes for their more active pursuits like skating, cycling, and tennis. The suits were coordinated jackets and long skirts, and were made by ladies’ tailors rather than by dressmakers. Shops like A. & L. Tirocchi often made the blouses or waists, as they were known in…

In the american revolution, generally, many people did not dress as we would today. They didn’t wear short skirts and tank tops, or sneakers and caps. But instead they wore long pants, to protect their legs from mosquitoes and large hats to save them from the sun. Back then, they considered this fashionable, yet healthy to wear. Soldiers would unfortunately not get the opportunity to wear this clothing, but the suppliers of it, are free to all day. In some ways, clothing in the 1700’s was similar to those of now. We still wear jeans, but usually just because it’s cold, not to prevent disease. We also wear hats, and for all the same reason. To block out the sun, and also, hats can be pretty stylish.…

In the army there are many uniforms a soldier has to wear. This is for the different activities a soldier does. For everything from their daily Physical Training (PT), their regular working uniform Army Combat Uniform (ACU), or their dress uniform either the Army Service Uniform (ASU), or the Army Green Service Uniform (Class A). Each uniform is design to fit a specific task and to be worn a in certain way. A great resource for either the ASU or the Class A is the “U.S. ARMY UNIFORM GUIDE.” I found this little book a great resource because it shows every form of the ASU for both males and females soldiers, for officers and enlisted. I found this to be great because it shows where everything goes, and how to measure everything, and for a new soldier like me it is important to have the little things right.…

To start the essay off id like to go over the "reason" that i am writing the essay to ensure you (the reader) that i know why i am writing it. When i raised my right hand on September 14th 2012 i was swearing into the U.S Army, which was pretty much me saying that i will obey by everything they want and need me to do. I went to basic training where i was taught many things, one of which was "Dress Right Dress" which pretty much means everything is the same. I learned that the army wants everything this way so that it doesn't look like a "Gaggle Fuck" as our sergeants like to put it. This is to ensure that when we don't have individuals here because as everyone here knows by now the army doesn't work when you try by yourself, but when you work as a team., so when i got to AIT and decided to put my shower shoes into my civilian bag i made a bad choice because i know that the order of our shoe display was "Boots, Dress shoes, Running Shoes, Shower Shoes." so when i made the choice to not have shower shoes i was pretty much saying F*** You to the rules and tired doing my own thing.…
