Importance of Prayer !
Prayer is not the compilation of long words or flowery lingo. It's not the language of the 'holy people'! It's not some sophisticated language of regular church goers! No! It's such a pity most of us fail to realize what true prayer is! Most of us think it's something we have to do to be good, while others do it because it's something our family, church or culture says we ought to do. Then again, some feel prayer is like an ATM card; you use it when you need something or when you fall into horrendous situations. The problem today is that our misconceptions about prayer have clouded the image of true prayer. Then what is true prayer and what is the importance of prayer in daily life?

What is Prayer

Prayer is the utterance from your spirit to God. In simple terms, talking to God is called prayer. It's the simple opening of one's heart to our Father in Heaven. It's coming to Him and telling Him everything in your heart. Then, why do we find praying so complicated? Those of us who say, 'I don't pray because I don't know how to pray', haven't understood that prayer is just being yourself and talking to God with honesty and sincerity.

When I was growing up, I found prayer very boring. It's because it just seemed like an endless stream of meaningless words to me. However, when I truly understood what prayer meant (that it's speaking to God with complete honesty, without any kind of masks or worrying about how and what you talk), my whole perspective about prayer changed. Prayer today is not a burdensome task that I have to complete everyday, but a joyful time I spend with my Lord. It's such a privilege to be able to talk to the King of Kings; to share my innermost thoughts, my deepest desires! However, this privilege came at a price. Jesus Christ died on the cross for me, for my sins, just so that I could enter the throne of God's grace with confidence. So is it for you!

“Lord please save my sister’s life. Please keep her safe even in the midst of her drunkenness and drugs. Jesus please keep her alive long enough to come to you for salvation.” I have been praying this for over 30 years and still I believe for her salvation. I am comforted by the knowledge that He hears my cries and has kept her alive thus far. In fact, last week she approached me about going to church again (she hasn’t gone since she was in middle school)!…

We all have had moments of tragedy and despair. It is in our darkest hour that many of us pray to God for comfort, I believe he answers our prayers when we are ready. We need to understand that asking God for material things will probably be ignored, that the greatest gifts we receive from God come from what we live and learn. For instance, my life was very difficult in many ways. I came from a home plagued by mental disease and addiction, it was a very lonely existence and I had often prayed for peace and to be loved unconditionally by another person. It did not seem like too much to want from life, however inside me grew resentment and anger. I was not ready to be loved or for a peaceful existence because I had not even loved myself. Over twenty years I lived my life angry at God for not giving me what seemed basic for most people and it consumed me to the point of near death. I saw what I had become, but now I had a child and I did not want her to feel the pain that I felt. If I did not change, it would just be repeating the vicious cycle. A very life altering decision was made and I began to heal from my past, but I still had a long journey ahead. I still felt lost and needed someone to understand. Finally I begged God to show me…

The Rosary is a devotional that derives from the early monastic practice of reciting the 150 psalms daily. When this devotional was adopted by the uneducated lay people of the time simple, easily remembered prayers---such as the Our Father---were substituted for the psalms, the repetition of the words intended to produce a quietude of mind that permitted the faithful to meditate upon the mysteries of the Gospel, focusing on the events of Christ’s life alongside the one who knew Him best: His mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary.…

Waiting is not easy: waiting is a difficult and time consuming process. It can even be irritating and aggravating. Impatience in many cases can cause doubt. It is particularly difficult to wait on God to answer your prayers. You know that you are a saint, a child of God and storms are brewing in your life and in the midst of your situation you call on God but He has not answered you yet. The storm is still ragging, you don’t know how much you can take and it appears that the worst is about to happen; you may wonder “where is God”.…

I grew up going to church every Sunday and believing that prayer solves everything. To me prayer is like a speech or a song, it is a form of expression. When I was worried, scared, or upset I would pray. With prayer there is comfort and a way to express yourself positively. Prayer is powerful, and with prayer in school more children would be helped and guided down the right path. As well as giving them a positive outlook on life. On the other hand without prayer, instead of children expressing their feelings through prayer, they express them through negative things. This is where the teen pregnancies come in, along with drug abuse, under-age drinking, and…

Growing up in South Dakota, you looked forward to Sundays. I was brought up in a Lutheran Church of the Missouri Synod, attending Sunday School and Church on a regular basis. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior at a young age, and strive every day to grow closer with God and share His word with others. I do admit, there was a 5-year time frame when I had lost my uncle, great-grandma, great uncle, and neighbor/teammate, when I was frustrated with Jesus Christ, but through prayer and readings I became closer to Him, and accepted that He was in control. In high school, I relied heavily on prayer as I went through multiple sports injuries and had a lot of frustration built up, but prayer always seemed to make things better. I also prayed…
