1. Assistant Official Language of India: India being a multicultural and multilingual country has Hindi as its official language and English as its Assistant Official Language. English is thus a window language. For those who do not know Hindi or whose mother tongue is not Hindi, it is imperative that they should at least have knowledge of the English language. English is the most commonly spoken after Hindi in India.
2. International / Global Language: Because of colonization, English has become the most spoken language worldwide. Knowledge of the English language gives us an advantage of being able to communicate at an international level. Is also by international treaty the official language for aerial and maritime communications. Books, magazines and newspapers in English are available in most countries around the world. For these reasons English has indeed become the most known international language.
3. Language of Science and Technology: Information technology is now at the tip of our fingertips but to be able to access to this technology we need to develop English language skills. The world is developing rapidly in the field of science and technology. Scientific inventions or discoveries of other countries (like Japan, Germany etc) cannot reach India through any language other than English.
4. Language of Administration: English has been the language of administration in India ever since the days of colonialism. However, there have been attempts to replace it with Hindi which has not been totally successful because of its multilingual identity. While Hindi and regional languages are used in the administration, the authoritative text of all laws must be in English.
5. Language of Education: English is not just another subject in the Indian education system, English is the main medium of education along with Hindi or the regional language varying from place to place. Because of the multilingual nature of the
