Judith Beveridge, a feminist poet who is greatly known in Australia has been gifted with the talent of writing poems, which portrays different meanings behind each one. Through her poems she expresses the beauty of nature through the ‘’ Orb Spider ‘’ and explores the power of painful memories within ‘’ The Two Brothers ‘’. The Orb Spider is one of Beveridge’s best-known poems that refer to the beauty of nature. Within this poem Judith reveals her sense of order, which she finds in nature and gains confidence and a positive look through her life. The main subject in this poem is an everyday garden spider who is a female and has the ability to construct a web of great complexity and beauty. It is obvious in the poem that the poet has a fascination for all living things as the poet observes the spider throughout the day. This is evident in the line ‘’ I saw her, pegging out her web ‘’. Through the works of art that the spider has portrayed in the web, the poet finds great beauty. Quoted from the poem in stanza 1 line 6‘’ She was so beautiful spinning her web. ‘’
Within this poem, techniques are present such as Personification, Verbs and Symbolism. In the beginning of the poem, the use of personification is clearly stated in the first Stanza as the spider is personified through the use of pronouns of ‘’ she ‘’ and ‘’her‘’, this is referring to the spider being a female.
Verbs are also used widely throughout the first stanza, majority of them describe the activities of the spider such as ‘’ pegging ‘’, ‘’spinning ‘’ and ‘’
