Improve Physical Health
Q: Things that I would like to improve about my physical health and how I’m going to do it.

Maintaining a physically healthy life style is very beneficial although, something so easy to do is often seen as a struggle for many. I personally would consider my physical health to be satisfactory. It is believed when an individual is able to recognize their defaults change is able to arise. By identifying with the negative factors that hinder me from obtaining my optimal physical health I will be able to change.

Sticking to a regular exercise schedule isn’t easy especially as a college student. Considering I’m very motivated to lose weight I came up with several strategies to overcome the barriers I think I will face in the upcoming months. To overcome my laziness I plan to go to bed earlier so I can wake up earlier. By going to bed earlier I will have more energy throughout the day.
To conquer my stress and still be able to maintain a social life I’m going to manage my time more efficiently. If I wake up earlier everyday I can start my day with a morning workout. Regardless if it is only a half hour workout it’s still a workout I wouldn’t have done if I stayed in bed. If I’m unable to go in the morning I’m going to start keeping gym clothes and sneakers in my car that way after class I can go straight there. I need to stop making excuses for my behavior and simply get to the gym. I plan to make a schedule for myself that will include enough time for sleep, schoolwork, exercise and a social life. It’s natural to find exercise boring or grow weary of a repetitive workout day after day, but exercise doesn’t have to be boring. To make exercise more intriguing I’m going to start choosing activities I enjoy like kickboxing instead of just running on a treadmill. Personally, working out alone can be very boring so my roommate and I are going to coordinate and go together. Her and I will be able to encourage each other to get to the gym and work hard.

After a twelve-hour work day, rushing home to the kids and to cook supper, is there ever any time to exercise? The benefits of exercise strongly outweigh the reasons to sit on the couch and eat potato chips. Most of our population is not only obese but out of shape. If a person is five feet four inches and two hundred pounds does not mean they are out of shape. They may not be in their average suggested weight, but if their muscle percentage is more than their fat, then they are above most of the population. Muscle weighs more than fat, so gaining muscle means gaining healthy weight. Exercise is addicting and fun, once you see the results, it is hard to stop. Even though we have such busy lives, finding time to make ourselves healthy is important.…

Most people will think of physical wellness as how they are feeling, whether they are sick, tired, or injured in some sort of way. According to Harper, he defines physical wellness as the ability to perform daily activities in a safe, capable, and efficient manner, as well as the physical capacity to respond effectively in unusual situations (2008). Harper further mentions that there are five components of physical wellness, such as cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition, and flexibility. If a person does not have physical wellness then they are at an increased risk of a lifestyle disease such as hypokinetic disease, diabetes, and obesity. Qualities of a person that inhibits physical wellness, as discussed by the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research are controlling your weight, combating health conditions and diseases, improves your mood, boosts your energy, sleep better, put the spark back into your love life, and physical fitness can be fun (2011). Furthermore the general goal is to aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day in order to attain the above qualities (Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, 2011). One way of getting started into a goal of being physically well is to check your Body Mass Index (BMI), hip to waist circumference, and partaking in…

My short term goal was to attend the gym at least once or twice a week. My long term goal was to consistently go to the gym more times a week. Sadly, I did not reach either goal. To this day, I have yet to step a foot in the gym. There were days where I told myself that I would wake up early the next day to go to the gym or go for a run, but I never seemed to wake up. As the quarter went on, attending the gym seemed more and more impossible as my workload increased. Even though I did not go to the gym this quarter, I still hope and have goals for attending the gym next quarter.…
