Personal Narrative: My College Experience
Coming into my first quarter of college I did not know what to really expect. I was very nervous and thought to myself if I could actually be successful in college. As the quarter went on, yes it was difficult at times, but I managed to work hard and get through everything. I have had good experiences and I have had bad experiences. I have had a mixture of these experiences throughout my classes. Academically I did a relatively good job. Although most of the time I was lazy and watched netflix a lot, towards the end of the quarter I did better on fully completing my work as well as watching less television.

I dislike English very much, however the fact that my teacher was very nice and helpful really aided the time I spent in lecture be less boring. I really learned a variety of new lessons from her class. It also greatly enhanced my writing skills. At the beginning of the quarter, I would receive D’s and F’s on the quizzes, and later on I began to receive many B’s. Also, I would receive C’s on my essays, however, I later also began to receive higher grades on my essays. In fact, about a week ago I surprisingly received a B- on an in class essay. I feel I have really improved on my writing skills and my professor has also positively commented on my improvement. She also reaffirmed my success by using the in class essay that I received a B- on as an example of what she considered to be a very good essay. One of my other academic goals this quarter was to pass my english lecture and so far it seems like I will accomplish my goal. For next quarter, I will be taking English 1A and I hope that I will have the same luck in having another great professor as well as improving my writing skills even …show more content…
My short term goal was to attend the gym at least once or twice a week. My long term goal was to consistently go to the gym more times a week. Sadly, I did not reach either goal. To this day, I have yet to step a foot in the gym. There were days where I told myself that I would wake up early the next day to go to the gym or go for a run, but I never seemed to wake up. As the quarter went on, attending the gym seemed more and more impossible as my workload increased. Even though I did not go to the gym this quarter, I still hope and have goals for attending the gym next quarter. Overall, my first quarter college experience has been okay. I did enjoy some aspects, but there are still some aspects that I do not like. I do believe that I have grown more throughout this quarter as a student and as an individual; however there is still more to grow and learn. I plan on working harder next quarter to be able to fully and successfully accomplish all the academic and personal goals I set for

After my first quarter I had completed all of my high school graduation requirements, so the classes I took were very impactful and out of the STEM field that I am usually in. It also made me more thankful for my education, since I was opting for those classes and professors. Moving forward, I plan on continuing school past a 4 year degree, so that I can go after my prefered career (doing research in behavioral neuroscience), I trust that when that time comes I will be ready, and I am glad to have that outlook on my life.…

The first year of college for a young man or women can be a monumental step in their life. In my case it was. It was the first time that someone in my household went to a college in the United States, so the pressure was on. It felt like having the spotlight in a performance just waiting for your work to get judged by others. I was not necessarily scared to be judge by my family members, but I was a little worried about the transition from the skate free ways of high school that I was very used to. The schoolwork was not the only thing that was on my mind as I made my way into the college atmosphere; I was also thinking about doing things on my own and budgeting my time completely by myself.…

Michelle, your college path is similar to mine. I started out at my local community college and earned my associates and then I went off to MSU. After a year there I learned that I really didn't like my major so I took a year off and moved back home. To pay the bills I started substitute teaching and instantly fell in love with it. The next year I enrolled at GVSU and earned by bachelors in education. I had planned on getting a teaching job and going straight for my masters. Unfortunately, when I graduated most of the schools were handing out pink slips so I took a job in another industry. Within 2 years I was making what I would as a teacher with 30 years in so I never did make the move back into teaching. Over the next 10 years I got married…

I seemed to ask myself, what do I really want from this class? What am I striving for? First of All, what I exactly wanted was to pass my English course with an A. Besides wanting a good grade as result of my effort and dedication, I wanted to learn how to get involved in my reading, writing and learning. For some reason all of my English classes seemed to always be hours and hours long when in reality it was only one hour long. The fact that I didn't enjoy writing and reading would make the course so much harder and boring. My goal for this past English class was to get involved in the class and find the way to like what I did and enjoy the time and learning while being in there. Effort and commitment were definitely necessary to achieve my goal. It was not easy to stay concentrated and understand everything right away; I had to try different methods. Learning doesn't stop at the classroom's door. Consistence and dedication were even harder due to my work and personal schedule. I didn't want to dedicate my little spare time to a subject I quite didn't like and enjoy. I always kept on thinking and pushing myself to actually do my homework. It all requires time and patience. Step by step, Little by little I started finding the good side, the “good taste” of reading and writing. Participating in class and giving a Little more of me into the class…

This is my second semester of online classes and I am proud to say that English has been one of my most proud, but challenging online classes I have had; even though my grades do not show a lot of excellence I usually am a very low-grade student in the class of English. Mrs. Goerl was very helpful when it came to grading and response; she always was very prompt in having assignments graded, but at the same time you knew she took a lot of time into the evaluation of the assignments. I appreciate the detailed feedback and am still returning back to them for reference and help.…
