Improving My Writing Skills Analysis
In the beginning of the semester, my writing skills were subpar, but after this class, I have learned skills that have improved my writing abilities. One skill I have mastered is brainstorming organization. I have always believed that brainstorming was an important part of the writing process, but struggled with how to appropriately organize the information I brainstormed. Before beginning each paper, I now take the guidelines given to me and immediately look at the requirements of my paper. Once, aware of the requirements I make a plan as to how I plan to include them in my paper. In doing this, I am able to set framework for the entire paper, and then I am able to fill in the details as I continue on in the writing process. For each paper, …show more content…
By incorporating description to a paper, it causes the message to come to life and allows the reader to draw a vibrant mental image. Personally, I found this to be one of the more important skills because I consider myself to be a very plain and to the point writer. It was good practice for me to actively think more descriptively and transfer that to my paper. In the visual analysis paper, I learned how to use a reverse to edit an essay. When using a reverse outline in my editing, the outline is useful in making sure I stay on topic and and the paper flows. I am the type of person that does not write her papers in one sitting and therefore, I sometimes lose track of what my plan was the last time I wrote. This skill allowed me to ensure that my paper followed a logical order and stayed on topic before turning it in. In the final essay, I learned two new writing skills which are in text citation and annotated bibliographies. Both are skills that I had to use in highschool, but I was not particularly well versed in how to appropriately use either skill. It was important that I master these skills now because I positive that they are skills that I will need as I continue through my college

To every great paper written there is a great writer behind it. It is crucial that when writing any type of entry, it follows a certain criteria in order for there to be organization and clarity. Over the course of being in school for the majority of my life and having an English class basically every year; it’s became more clear to me how a paper should properly be written which is simply following the “5- Paragraph Rhetoric Model.” With this tool, my english/writing classes have been quite easy as this model allows me to organize my ideas, offer clear understanding to my audience and helps to minimize the time spent on trying to write a paper(as I know what goes where.) To begin with, organizing ones ideas when writing any type of paper makes the process a lot more smoother.…

Edwin Morgan’s poem ‘trio’ is about a moment where Morgan saw a man and two girls walking in Glasgow, down Buchanan Street in the cold at Christmas time. In the poem Morgan uses different poetic techniques like his specific word choice clever punctuation to show his emotions about this moment and how memorable it was. He also uses techniques like figurative language, not just to tell us about his experience but to also explain a deeper comment about life which is that no matter how bad things get you can always find a moment of clarity and peace and that the happiness makes all our troubles no longer frightening. In the poem ‘trio’ Edwin Morgan also uses repetition and allusion to show us how memorable and meaningful this experience was to him.…

The Wichita Kid from “The Gunfighter” by Alden Nowlan and a young man living on the streets of Calgary both demonstrate that we fear what we do not understand. Citizens need to personally comprehend someones situation before they can help or judge them directly. Homelessness and poverty are often hard situations to face considering how uncomfortable and awkward it can become. When Kevin O’Brien has a short conversation with Wichita he learns that he is unaware of reality and living his delusional life as a famous gunfighter. Confused and not understanding Wichita’s situation, Kevin tries to solve his own guilt by lending the young boy some spare change. Much like Kevin O’Brien when I encountered the young unfortunate man in Calgary my own heart ached, so I tossed him a couple of loonies and left. Although you feel major misery there is rarely anything you can do to support them without getting deeply involved.…

In efforts to resolve the issue, monthly staff meetings should be introduced, whereas employee work reviews, complaints, issues and any changes within the executive team can be discussed and resolved in a timely fashion; by doing so we can prevent or minimize the effects and cost that problems and unresolved issues can, and in this case have, cause to the company. These meetings will keep the executive team all on the same page while also allowing the employees to feel that they have a time in which their concerns and problems will be heard and also resolved. Holding these monthly meetings will reassure us and help me maintain a healthy, effective and productive office, which in-turn saves the company cost of overtime fees and cost of time and poorly produced work.…

During my writing process, I came across a tolerable amount of obstacles. I felt the tendency to occupy a higher quality word choice, as well as better sentence structure. Sentence structure was especially arduous, for I found a great deal of simple sentences in my narrative introduction. However, I did overcome these obstacles with the help of my peer-checking partner, my classmates around me, and my background knowledge in regards to applying what I already know into my assignments. On the contrary, there were a few things I could facilitate. As I write down or think of proposals to apply to my assignments, it is almost as if the suggestions are pouring from out of my head, onto the paper. I write down what I feel sounds right, and if ultimately…

Writing, something that has never befriended me, will always be an obstacle in my life. For me, it’s difficult to just sit down at a table and write something interesting and creative. I try to do so every time I am assigned a essay, and sometimes it turns out to be successful, but most of the time it is unsuccessful. Every time I am given a written assignment, I go through the same routine: I sit at the table and stare at my computer with my fingers on the keyboard. I have noticed that I come up with a lot of ideas, but I focus mainly on how to structure them while writing. In three articles written by Anna Lomott, Marie Foley and Donald M. Murray, they all discuss different strategies on how to draft, structure and revise an essay. They all have taught me a better way on how to make my writing strategy more successful in college than it was before.…

The Nature of a person's writing style can sometimes show more about an individual then the words they actually write, the poetic twists in sentence flow or the professional structure of their grammar. Writing styles are as unique as fingerprints and to define them can be as arduous as mastering the skills required to properly form one. In the quest to define my own style I discovered a detail that I have determined encapsulates the style with which I write; I write with passion. When I say I am a passionate writer I don't mean that I love to write but more that my level of personal affection toward the subject I am writing on directly affects the emotional nature I write in. In other words, I write more expressively and artistically the…
