Inch’Allah
The movie is about a young Canadian obstetrician, Chloé, who works in a Palestinian camp and lives in Israel. Chloé develops a friendship with her neighbour in Israel and with one of her patient in Palestine. These relationships will allow her to learn about the conflicts between these countries and how horrendous this situation is for the average citizen.
Topics such as tolerance, cultural and religious differences between Israel and Palestine are covered in this movie. Because the main character travels on both sides of the border every day, we can see how similar these countries are even if they don’t have the same religion, meaning that on both sides the population is ravaged by the atrocities of the war and everyone wants it to end. This demonstrates that we should never generalize and think that people in a particular country have same beliefs. For example, Chloé’s friend, Ava, an Israeli girl who works at the border, would like to see both countries living in harmony and people having the possibility to live their religion freely as opposed to the opinion of the politicians. Also, by the way the film was made, it shows the human side of this long-lasting conflict and demonstrates how people are being treated in both Palestine and Israel.
I can clearly make a connection with the text ‘’Small Differences, Large Conflicts’’. The author, Paul K. Kim, talks about the hostilities in Israel between Jewish Israelis and Muslim Arabs even though the differences between these two groups, the similarities of their culture and the fact that they have quite the same social background are obvious. These topics are covered in the movie Inch’Allah except that the events happen in two different countries.
