usually not located in rural areas. Rural areas have a different types of alternative medicine. Healers are popular there. These individuals cure things such as the evil eye, do cleansings and other practices. Some practices include egg rituals and incense depending on the patient’s health issue. Medicines may be prescribed and if there are, they usually come from plants which can be formed into pills or other forms of medication.
There are different strategies that can be done in order to improve the access and quality of healthcare and reducing poverty in Chiapas. Some ideas would be providing food security in vulnerable populations, healthy foods, clean water, etc. Even though money would help, it is not always available. Non-profits around the area can be created and education can be provided; this would be important and helpful to the community as a whole. There are programs available to help Chiapas such as Partners in Health , PIH. This program focuses on getting communities access to healthcare. They provide for poor populations, care for them and strengthen their health care system. PIH has two new sites in Chiapas. The sites are Letrero and Monterrey and are located in rural areas where it is absolutely needed. There is preferential option for the poor in health care(Partners In Health 2015). Another popular program is Oportunidades Welfare. They focus on decreasing poverty and improving health and educational attainment in regions where it has been deployed.
