Aboriginal history is Australia's history. Seriously who doesn't know the history of their own country? It’s like having a birthday party and not knowing how old you’re turning. Indigenous studies is an important subject, because it helps children find out about their heritage, it can help them understand the group of people they might have came from and it could also help reveal their past relatives. It would also be an interesting topic because it would be fun learning about how they survived in the winter and how they lived. Most high school students think that this topic is a waste of time, but some other subjects have assessments that need you to look into the aboriginal history. If you …show more content…
don’t know anything about it, then your going to fail the assignment and you might fail that subject. Charles states “introducing Indigenous studies to the curriculum could help with reconciliation with the Aboriginals.” As said Indigenous studies is the history of your own country, if you don’t know this then you will fail other subjects.
Learning about aboriginal history can have beneficial effects on a persons demeanour.
This could mean finding out that your great, great, grandfather died trying to protect your people. This could change your whole view on your life. Ramsey F states “finding out about the past could have a positive influence on you. You could see the world in a different light and maybe even change the way you behave.” Some scientists believed that this could also have an effect on how you feel towards these people and it can also help you understand the hardship that your past relatives went through. As it shows learning about the past could have a positive influence on some people in
life.
We must learn the proper history of Australia. If we do not learn the true history we could look upon the history differently and not emphasise it as much as we should. Westaway M “states” that the Aboriginal history should not be excluded from the curriculum as it is a 50 000 year piece of history that many young Australians don’t know about. If we don't learn about this history we might start to form discriminatory attitudes that will continue to marginalise the Aboriginal Australians from the national identity. If we don't learn about this very important subject we will start to marginalise the Aboriginal people from our society forming a discriminated society.
Indigenous studies must be taught in Australian schools because it is the history of Australia, it can have beneficial effects on a persons demeanour and we need to learn about the proper history of Australia. Indigenous studies is an essential subject that must be introduced to the curriculum. If Indigenous studies is not taught in Australian schools, the indigenous culture will not be known to many australians and there will be a lot of discrimination towards the Aboriginal people. It is quiet clear that Indigenous studies should be taught in Australian schools as it will help boost children educations and it will help them in all their subjects. This is an important subject the only question is, is it going to really happen?
