Influences of the Renaissance Upon the Founding of America
The Renaissance was the most influential time period in the discovery of America. During the Renaissance, which lasted from the 14th century to the 17th century, great advancements were made in methods of navigation. Also, the greatest goal of almost every nation and empire was to claim new lands and seize its riches. The desire for the land motivated some to move westward. Another motive to expand during the Renaissance was the will to convert the native "heathens" into Christians.

The Renaissance, which began in Italy in the 1300s, was one of the largest periods of growth and development in Western Europe. Navigation was no longer limited to traveling about by land. Large fleets of ships were constructed, and great navigational schools, the best founded by Prince Henry the Navigator in Portugal, were founded. People were no longer tied to the lands they lived on, as they were in medieval times. They were freer to learn new skills and travel. These enabled people to go further than they had before. Fleets of ships were sent to the Eastern world to bring back treasures and valuable spices. Routes to Asia were traveled beginning in the early Renaissance.

The most posing problems with the set routes to Asia, which went around the Cape of Good Hope and along the coast of Africa, were that it was very dangerous due to enemy colonies along the route and was also very long. These problems made some people, including Christopher Columbus, decide to turn to the west to find safer and faster routes to the riches of Asia. What they found was the Americas. Believing that he would reach Asia, Columbus accidentally found a new continent, full of new riches and unclaimed lands. All of this occurred near the end of the Renaissance, beginning with the founding of America in 1492, near the end of the 15th century.

Europe flocked to this New World, and founded many colonies, including the Thirteen Colonies, founded by Great Britain, which later became the

Spain was able to take great advantage of its new found wealth, but made some bad decisions that in the long run did not help to solidify their existence in America. The pursuit of riches was not the only motivation for the Spaniards to come to America, though. Christopher Columbus is one of the most well known names in the western world because of what he accomplished during his lifetime. He was an explorer, a navigator, and a colonizer and, with his unrelenting determination, he would be the man to “discover” the New World. Although he thought that he found India and a better route to Asia rather than sailing around the southern tip of Africa, he had really stumbled upon the Americas. While he may have had the actual location wrong, his accidental discovery has effectively changed the timeline of human existence greatly, and has helped shape the world as we know it into what it is today.…

Europeans, mainly the Spanish, French, and English, as I pointed out earlier, were more into their own matters before America was discovered. In the 1400's, Spain began to explore the seas in search of the Asian trade routes (“The Silk Road” was one popular route) in order to find the wealth they needed to be superior to one another. Instead they stumbled upon the Americas. Christopher Columbus (Cristobal Colon) founded San Salvador (located in the Bahamas) and Cortes founded Mexico and eventually came to conquer the Aztec empire in 1521. The idea of exploration and enlightenment eventually arrived in other parts of Europe. In England, King Henry VIII only decided to follow the trend due to the profit Spain gained by going to the Americas. Europe at the time was going through the Protestant Reformation (1517) which was started by part of Martin Luther due to his disagreement of several Roman Catholic doctrines and his denying of the Pope's religious authority due to the fact that he believed the only source of God was the actual Bible. This led to many of the church lands to be possessed by the countries (including England and France) and used for more…

The renaissance was an era of rebirth that expressed literature, art, and education which led to an advance way of thinking. This created the society to be more stabiliezed even though there were many struggles during the 14th and 15th century. Therefore, trade workers increased overtime which eventually had an impact on the economy such as the Medici family becoming a powerful banking center in Europe.
