INFORMATION PAPER SUBJECT: The Profession of Arms
1. Background:
a. On 2010 the Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff ordered to the Command General of TRADOC to conduct an assessment of the Army Profession. After ten years of war the Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff understand that due to the war we have lost the art of garrison command in reference of the Second Battle of Fullujah, Sadr City, Abu Ghraid, Wanat and IEDs. The assessment is focus on how we have changed for the last nine years and how we as an institution must adapt on the era of persistent conflict.
2. Purpose: To provide a summary about the Army White Paper “The Profession of Arms”, 8 December 2010 by CG TRADOC.
3. Conclusion:
a. The trust of the American People on the Army as an institution falls under the Army’s professional Ethic, values and the how the Army maintains the effectiveness of the profession by investing in the development of the Soldiers. 4. Discussion:
a. The article establishes that each profession earns the trust of their client that in our case our client is the American people. This trust has been builder for our leader by investing in the development of our Soldiers. This inversion is divided in difference areas such as: competence, expertise, morality, and character. Therefore, requiring to meet the high standards for this profession.
b. These requirements are imperative to keep monitoring the progress of our Soldier through periodic evaluations and assessments to maintain the high standards. One of these methods is to practice the “exercise of discretionary judgment” regardless of the rank or position, thus, increasing the knowledge and the expertise of our members.
c. Since the foundation of the Army the development of our leader through professional education system has been the priority for the Army as institution. The Army professional
