In early 2004, the Hilton Hotels Corporation (HHC) required that all of its hotels (both owned and franchised) install highspeed Internet access (HSIA) in all of their rooms by June 2004. This case focuses on how one of its franchise properties located on the northern gulf coast of Florida (the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa—hereinafter referred to as the
HSB) responded to this mandate. The (A) part of the HSB case includes the industry situation for the HSB in 2004 plus the details surrounding the initial phase of the HSIA project. Also presented in this part are descriptions of how and why the HSB management made the decision to use a wireless (versus wired) solution as well as to outsource both the installation of the
HSIA wireless hardware and the customer support aspects of the HSIA project to what turned out to be a less than experienced vendor. The (B) part of this case describes the situation at HSB after the high speed internet system was installed and made operational, as well as the various problems that the system and its lack of customer support created for the hotel. Part (C) details the actions of the new HSB General Manager who arrived in late 2004 after the initial HSIA implementation and how he resolved the issues that had been created by his predecessor.

Although the freedom to roam the facility and always be connected to the LAN can be a great advantage for network users, the amount of support needed to manage the system and users is much higher than that required by a wired network. Due to the broadcasting nature of a wireless system, security is an important concern and provisions should be made for guest / unauthorized users to use the system in a limited and controlled way. Additional support by the IT Team is often required to configure a user to use the wireless network, to ensure the wide variety of hardware will work with the College’s wireless system, and to provide Help Desk support for wireless…

Adoption is an extremely sensitive subject,(insert dash) especially for individuals who are Gay or Lesbian. There is much controversy on the topic. There are a variety of ways to which it isn’t possible for a couple to adopt. Infertility is becoming a greater problem in our time. In Gerald P. Mallon’s article, “Assessing Lesbian and Gay Prospective Foster and Adoptive Families: A Focus on the Home Study Process,” in 2007. He introduces a few different ways gay men and lesbian couples go about starting a family and mentions how the decision to adopt or become a foster parent for a child is a huge step in parenting. There are even more studies today that show, gay men and lesbians make good parents. In Scott Weber’s article, “Nursing Care of Families with Parents who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender,” he brings to attention, what the child may experience growing up in such circumstances. Some things a child may experience are teasing and sensitivity to being harassed. Both articles have valid arguments on the topic of gay men and lesbian headed families. Mallon argues how lesbians and gay men are potential parents for many children and youth who need permanent families while Webber argues children of non heterosexual couples are more likely to be teased and sensitive to being harassed.…

David Bart, General Manager of the Plaza Inn, received a letter from the hotel association of which the Plaza Inn was a member. The letter stated that the hotel’s service levels did not measure up and that the front desk and reservations, two critical departments, received the worst ratings among all of the association’s properties. Unless the management of the Plaza Inn could submit a plan for guest service improvement and pass the next inspection scheduled in six months, its membership would be rescinded. In fact, at the Plaza Inn, the inability to efficiently expedite phone calls and respond to guest needs was troubling to Bart, not only from a guest service perspective, but also from the standpoint of lost revenue.…

The Royal Hotel faces issues typical of any hotel. Customer service and aesthetics are the cornerstones the hospitality business and if they are lacking in anyway, patrons will find other hotels that better suit their needs. The Royal Hotel GM sees the recent events as unacceptable and is attempting to correct the problems and ensure they do not lose customers to competitors by hiring the firm that Blake works for. Blake will attempt to solve the problems of the hotel by installing a Rapid Response program that will be aimed to correct problems before they affect the guests of the hotel. The program offers the company a solution to the problems they face as it will use rapid response, quality control, preventative maintenance and reporting. Blake had helped to install the system but was called away before ever got to put his personal touch on the implementation and roll-out of the new system. Because he was not around to personally oversee the system implementation, the system is not being utilized by the employees and Blake must attempt to rectify the situation that he had thought he already solved. He must rectify the problem that was created by Jack not following through the way he needed to, the employees not utilizing the software and management’s inability to enforce the system usage.…
