Informative Essay on Serial Killers
What is a serial killer? A serial killer is a person who has murdered three or more people over a period of more than a month, with down time (a “cooling off period”). Most of the time people don’t look at what a serial killer is or does and that is why America is having a hard time with these offenders. There are different types of serial killers, their motives and victims are different. Not all serial killers have the same motive and none of them are the same.
The FBI classifies serial killers into two groups. The first group is an “organized” killer. An organized/ Nonsocial serial killers are usually very intelligent. These killers usually pre-meditate their crimes for a long time, also most likely choose and stalk their victims before abducting their victims. They also abduct their victims by playing victim. For example the well know serial killer Ted Bundy, used a fake cast on his arm, to attract his victims to help him carry his objects to his car. Organized killers aim for victims that will voluntary go with them at first, for example runaway teens and prostitutes. This category of criminals also have knowledge of forensic science, which is convenient for the when trying to cover up their tracks. Also they follow their crimes on the media, like watching his crimes on TV and cutting up newspaper clipping. They do this because it’s some type of trophy for all of their “hard work”.
The second group of killers is the disorganized. Disorganized / asocial offenders have often low I.Qs and intelligence. When a disorganized killer picks out its victim it is most likely random, and only when the opportunity is brought to him, more of an impulse action. A character of this type is most likely compelled to do rituals once their victim is dead. For example cutting the victims up, having sex with dead bodies. They are also more impulsive than other serial killers. These types of offenders are often unemployed
