Skin cancer affects millions of people every day, with skin cancer being the most common form of cancer in the United States it’s important that people get the right information on the condition. It’s also important that people get educated and gain as much knowledge they can about the causes of skin cancer and all the ways in which they can prevent it as well as how they can detect it in it’s early stages to prevent it from getting worse. “One in every five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime,” that is a large amount of people, people that may be at the risk of skin cancer which can lead to body disfigurement or even death ("What Is Skin Cancer?"). People need to be more aware of how dangerous skin cancer can actually be in order for them to take the right safety measures. Actinic Keratosis is a form of a precancerous skin growth that is characterized by small patches that are red and scaly on the skin and is caused by overexposure to the sun. Actinic keratosis is commonly found on the head, neck and hands but can also be found in other areas of the body. “Fair-skinned, blond, or red-haired people with blue or green eyes are most at risk” (“Skin Cancer Signs and Symptoms”). This is because people with lighter skin has a higher level of sensitivity to the sun’s rays, which means the sun can more easily cause damage in the skin cells. Actinic Chelitis, also known as farmer’s lip, is another form of precancerous condition that usually appears on the lips. This condition is also characterized by scaly patches on the skin of the lips, if left untreated this condition may result in invasive squamous cell carcinoma. If clients are very frequently exposed to the sun with their entire bodies and their faces exposed it’s important that they not only use sunscreen on their face and bodies but their lips as well.
