Informative Essay: Puppet Theater
Puppet Theater

Introduction/ Author's note

Rhetorical question-> So, when we're puppets really made? Or what made them. Well I'm sure there's an exact answer on Wikipedia somewhere, but do we really have any proof that they were just for entertainment. Or theater of the sorts. Well to answer that question, I say no we don't. The oldest found dolls date back to ancient aztecs and mean, those guys were pretty weird. Remember the Aztec Calendar incident in 2012? Ya I know right. But what I'm trying to say is there are just some things in the world to old to determine what it's real purpose was. And some things just to mysterious… man puppets are creepy.

“ He better be here this time” said Arthur. And just as he said that the door opened and the owner was there. “ Ahhhhh it doesn't feel right when I'm not in my store” said the owner. The owner then pulled out a bag from his pocket. And from that pocket he pulled out a very small top hat. “Man this hat took forever to find”. Hatty and Arthur saw the small top hat and realized why the owner was gone yesterday. He was buying clothes for the dolls.(interjection)“ Wow, how considerate!” said Hatty In a non sarcastic tone. My clothes have been wearing out for the past few months and I need a new pair. “ Me to” said Arthur. The owner picked up both the dolls and started to give them new and improved clothes. Hatty got a beautiful tux and he also got the dashing tophat. Next was Arthur and he was very excited. What he pulled out of his bag was… A miniature pair of glasses. “ What my eyesight is fine!” Exclaimed Arthur. Hatty began to laugh at a Arthur because he got something he didn't want, but Arthur already had some nice clothes so it didn't really matter. (Maybe explain why kids come in)(begin with adjective, subject) So a few hours passed and the two dolls along with the owner waited for something to happen. Then at one point in the day,you could hear the knocking on the door and the footsteps of the kids walking in. “entertainment time!” Said Hatty. The owner new many different stories as being a puppeteer requires. And as usual the owner took a few minutes out of the day to entertain these three happy kids. The kids then left after being satisfied, and Hatty and Arthur were put back on there

The object of the first task set was to create a performance in response to the stimulus given. The stimulus we received was a short passage from a story describing a circus, the description allowed us to freely explore our different interpretations because it was a broad and different approach to the typically happy and childlike setting of a circus. As a whole the class responded with quite abstract and solemn pieces, I feel the physical theatre reflected the tone of the stimulus well, all of the responses tended to lean towards drawing fear from the audience, for example instead of limiting the use of space to a typical theatre styled front on stage setting the use of proxemics broadened when groups branched out and included the audiences space during their performance, this gave the piece a threatening edge and popped the comfortable bubble that the audience would’ve usually been used to and expected.…

Making its debut 1982, The Dark Crystal, created and directed by puppeteers Jim Henson and Frank Oz, was a fantasy film that involved intricate puppeteers and animatronics. Aside from The Muppets and Sesame Street, which involves more comedic skits to relay their message to its viewers, The Dark Crystal was a different kind of muppet movie because it used fantasy, fiction and action to tell its story. With this change in Jim Henson’s usual way of story telling, the fantasy aspect of the movie becomes associated with the narrative patterns and functions of Propp. As the story line progresses throughout the film, some of the 31 functions of characters discussed by Propp is revealed. Also, with a fantasy/fairy tale working simultaneously with puppetry, it provides a connection with youth while developing their imagination with fairytale images. The Dark Crystal uses fantasy, fiction, action and puppets to demonstrate the narrative patterns associated with Propp all while developing new dimensions for children’s imagination.…

I am happy to make the journey downstairs, as I am tired after the day and ready to head to bed early. Abigael stops in front of the mirror one more time as she reaches into her back pocket, grabs the gentleman’s number, and smiles as she looks at the piece of paper. She then looks down at me and says, “Glad I had my lucky boots on today.” It is in that moment that I realize what I am. I am Abigael’s lucky, sassy pair of boots. I may not be a tall, tan pair of leather cowboy boots, but I am short, black, made of slick leather, and have plenty of sass with my three-inch heel. It all makes sense now; why Abigael always walks a little taller in me, why she wears me so often, and why she always walks with just a little more pep in her step while wearing me. I feel content as Abigael slides me off and returns me to the floor of her closet. I will no longer feel inferior to those taller boots, now I feel nothing but pride and will sleep peacefully knowing that I am wanted. Today has been a great day because now I know exactly what I am; lucky and…

“Crew call after school, be there or be square” the posted announcement said. I still remember fairly vividly the initial day starting off as a theatre technician. Learning the procedure and getting acquainted with the people were many of the first things I did. Many of the experienced “techies,” as we called them explained to me the method they built sets and how to program the lighting console. Using power tools and saws were fun but planning and executing each step was the best part about it. Many mistakes were made while I was learning but time allowed me to develop and enhance my abilities.…
