Explore the history of the sweetener (when it was developed, its composition). Sucrose, according to our text, is composed of one glucose (the most common sugar molecule) molecule and one fructose (the sweetest natural sugar) molecule. The bond is called glycosidic linkage. Because of this mixture, Sucrose is known to be sweeter than lactose or maltose (the other 2 out of the 3 most common disaccharides, which is a carbohydrate compound consisting of 2 or more molecules joined together). The history of sucrose dates back to thousands and thousands of years ago when the sugar cane was discovered in the South Pacific, rumored specifically to have been found in New Guinea. Ever since I was a preteen, I was always fascinated with the channel TLC— otherwise known as The Learning Channel. This certain channel always seemed to focus their shows on topics related to the medical field whether it was a documentary on a person with a genetic mutation that affected their life dramatically or simply a show about ER doctors. It typically didn’t matter what they were showing on any specific day because the producers of the channel always had my eyes glued to the screen, fascinated with the new discoveries I always felt that I was…

After studying for several years at Ingolstadt and gaining a reputation as a brilliant science student, Dr. Frankenstein would start experimenting with reanimation, which is what many would consider the beginning of the end for Victor. The wretch is created after many raids of morgues and cemeteries and several failed attempts at reanimating dead tissue. Victor’s obsession with granting life to the lifeless will lead to his downfall, with his endless pursuit for immortality leading to him creating in his words a “new species” that would “bless me as its creator and source…” (pg. 53). Victor warns that knowledge, while powerful, can be used for great evil as well as tremendous good, stating “Learn from me, if not by my precepts, at least by my example, how dangerous is the acquirement of knowledge and how much happier that man is who believes his native town to be the world, than he who aspires to become greater than his nature will allow.” (pg. 53)…

When comparing different medical shows, the NBC comedy show “Scrubs” is commended by doctors for being the most accurate medical show on television. Hidden underneath the jokes and the cartoonish sequences of “Scrubs” are real plots and real stories of what actually goes on in a hospital. Every case in a hospital is different - some are dramatic, like the ones found on shows like “ER” and “General Hospital”, and some cases are boring or typical, like the ones found on “Scrubs” (Weiss). Though “Scrubs” may be an accurate show, it is still just a show. So, what is it really like to be a doctor?…
