The FARC
Purpose Statement:
To inform the class about The FARC
Thesis Statement:
To understand The FARC you have to look into their background, look at their regional familiarization, and the threat they pose towards the United States.
Introduction
Attention Getter:
People are fighting and dying every day trying to get the freedoms they feel should be given to them. The FARC has been fighting for these rights but going about it the wrong way, they use bombings, murder, mortar attacks, kidnapping, extortion, and hijacking, as well as guerrilla and conventional military action.
Overview of Main Points:
I will be covering some of the history of The FARC, where they live and work majority of the time, and the threat the U.S. faces because of The FARC.

Knowing that The FARC is dangerous and are willing to kill to get what they want, Lets look into their history and background and see what drives them.

Main Point 1:
First we can look at when The FARC started, why they started, and who started them.
A. According to the (Council on Foreign Relations) The FARC was founded in the 1960’s after Colombia’s two main political parities ended more than a decade of political violence and agreed to share power. FARC formed in 1964.
B. They represent the rural poor against Colombia’s wealthy classes and oppose U.S. influence in Colombia, the privatization of natural resources, multinational corporations, and rightist violence is the reason they formed The FARC.
C. A few communist militants and peasant self-defense groups joined to become The FARC. Manuel Marulanda was looked at as the founder and top Commander until his death in 2008.

Knowing The FARC’s background helps us better understand the group we are dealing with. Finding out where they conduct most of their operation can help us completely understand them.
