November 24, 2014 Social media is taking over the lives of individuals. It eliminates people facetoface interaction with each other. One example of this social media is Instagram, and online photo sharing service that allows people to show their lives through a series of pictures on a mobile device and adding text to explain what was happening. In the future, people will think citizens in 2014 are narcissistic because their extensive use of Instagram. People put too much value in uploading images, videos, and text Instagram. Noorin
Ladhani Staceys facts about Instagram there is "over one billion photos uploaded, one million photos uploaded each day, 575 likes per second, and 81 comments per second" (Ladhani
52). People isolate themselves so much by using Instagram by replacing it for actual conversation. Instagram is taking the focus off of things that are truly important in life because of the 575 likes per second. They want others to know how amazing there life is at that moment. Ladhani also shows how obnoxious and that's what people are to have the new with things and be cool, "purchased for $300 million in cash and 23 million shares in April 2012. At the time of its purchase it had over 30 million users" (Ladhani 52). The fact the one would spend so much money on an app truly shows what they value, which is making a profit off of
Instagram. People recognize that one can become wealthy because millions of people use it.
As a result they think that they have power over everyone because they are the only one that owns the app. People are too concerned about what others think of them. Today, what society prioritizes is unbalanced due to the lack of selfconfidence. People care about how many likes and followers they get on Instagram instead of the characteristics they possess.
