Insurance Weaknesses
One of my weaknesses is being a charismatic leader, most of the employees say that if I leave the insurance agency it would fall apart. Sometimes I feel as though I can do no wrong and I am to important to the agency to be let go. I need to cross train more, I am the only person in the agency that is an expert in manufacturing risks and the only person that is an expert in surety bonds. This puts the agency in a very volnerable situation and if I should be removed or leave the agency it would be hard to replace my knowledge and expertise. (Team) Another weakness is the fact that I have a very knowledgeable staff, all of them are licensed in property, casualty, and surety insurance. Due to this fact I am somewhat of a Laissez-faire leader which means that this leadership style usually has a highly capable and motivated team and they do not need close supervision. (Team) The downside of this is that I have become a bit lazy as far as leading. The only time I need to jump in and assist is if there are …show more content…

I would like to work with the employees to create an in-depth training program in order to have no gaps in knowledge or experience. By doing this it will fill in the gaps that the agency has as far as lack of knowledge. There should be no lack of knowledge or experience between the employees and managers.
Lastly, I need to use the practice of transformational leadership by setting high expectations. I believe that customer satisfaction is lower than it has been due to the lack of motivation and structure in the agency. I need to build stronger and trusting relationships with everyone in the agency. This in turn will help the employees reach higher satisfaction levels and achieve a higher level of confidence in their abilities. By hitting higher level goals in the agency this will boost their confidence and morale among each other, leaders, and clients. (Team)

The first strength that I have as a leader is my strong achievement drive and relentless dedication to complete each job successfully. If I reach a road block while working on a task I will search endlessly for a solution and fall back on resources if needed. One of my huge weaknesses is low self-esteem and confidence (Bethel University, 2014). Having this as a poor skill in life makes a lot of the other skills hard to conquer. I think if I had a higher confidence level then maybe I wouldn’t struggle so much with public speaking, management of people and seeking support from others. I don’t give myself enough credit and I am hard on myself. Another weakness that I struggle with is the ability to focus on one thing at a time. I have struggled with this quality as far back as I can remember. My mind is always racing and trying to complete more than more thing at a time.…

To be an effective leader, one must understand themselves as well as others. All too many times, leaders have projected their weaknesses on others and shifted the blame instead of owning their own mistakes and pulling on the expertise and skill of others to make things work. On the flip side, a leader that is very aware of their strengths and weaknesses as well as very aware of their own emotional intelligence can be very instrumental in getting people to meet and accomplish organizational objectives. Integrity, compassion, and courage are great traits of an effective leader that motivates and champions others so that planning can proceed and meet objectives. These are important traits to have and understand because strategic planning has a lot of moving parts and intricate details that will bring out many different attitudes and personalities and effective leaders/motivators need to understand and be able to shift with the many different dynamics of interpersonal relationships.…

Some of the characteristics I need to improve on include being overly ambitious, procrastination, being too demanding of teammates, being unable to articulate my vision to others and lack of confidence. These weaknesses are important because they take part in defining who I am and how I am viewed. For example, I do no want to be the team member that is difficult to work with, that is not how I want the business community to view me. These weaknesses hinder my ability to achieve my vision due to the fact that they all impact my character negatively. I will not be given the opportunity to take part in extracurricular group projects (which are essential in developing my fundamental leadership qualities) if I am lacking confidence or lacking the ability to articulate my vision. Procrastination and being overly ambitious will also hinder my vision of gaining a positive…

One of my strength as a leader would be my communication skill. I always try to take the time to listen. I feel that hearing what my employee’s say is crucial in leading them. Our workspace is setup in a circle where we all work together. I could have one of the large offices one floor up, but instead of taking an office away from them I’m right in the trenches with them. I want them to know that I am always available for them. It is not always easy but by eliminating distractions and focusing my attention on my employees needs, demonstrates to them that I am listening.…

My overall leadership characteristics have grown over the last few years. In my opinion, I have more strengths than weakness. However, I still have many areas that require improvement, particularly my leadership skills. When I became a Hospice Director of Nursing, there was no one to train me for the position. However, over the last two years under the direction of a new Executive Director (ED), my leadership skills and knowledge have grown. My current management style is co-leadership with the ED and servant leadership.…
