issues with some type of coverage or issue with rating insurance on company websites. I have become complacent and not interested in the business. Lastly, I need to motivate the staff to get more training in insurance and rating. I don’t do a very good job at motivating them to get more knowledge and learn new skills. There are several different training programs on insurance products and coverage’s on each of the insurance companies websites. The employees state they do not have time for training due to their busy schedules. I need to instill in them that training is very important to stay at the top of their game, in turn the insurance agency stays tuned into changes in the insurance industry.
Recommendations
The first item I need to work on is being more of a transformational leader and clearly communicate the vision and develop an image for the insurance agency. I need to make certain that there is no misunderstanding about the vision of our organization and were it needs to be heading. Also, I need to make sure that every individual in the agency plays a role as well as empower them to follow the vision. (Leadership Theories) This will assist in building a supportive and organized team which will accomplish organizational and individual goals. This will provide a sense of belonging and they will easily identify with the leader and its purpose. (Leadership Theories)
Another area I would like to develop is also part of the transformational leadership theory.
I would like to work with the employees to create an in-depth training program in order to have no gaps in knowledge or experience. By doing this it will fill in the gaps that the agency has as far as lack of knowledge. There should be no lack of knowledge or experience between the employees and managers.
Lastly, I need to use the practice of transformational leadership by setting high expectations. I believe that customer satisfaction is lower than it has been due to the lack of motivation and structure in the agency. I need to build stronger and trusting relationships with everyone in the agency. This in turn will help the employees reach higher satisfaction levels and achieve a higher level of confidence in their abilities. By hitting higher level goals in the agency this will boost their confidence and morale among each other, leaders, and clients. (Team)
SMART
Goals SMART goals that will help me improve my leadership practice is to challenge the employees to develop new skills as well as have the ability to communicate better. By January 30, 2018, I will implement a new training program for the employees to develop their skills. They will do this so that they learn more and are able to fill in for anyone in the agency. I will put in place a training program with date, time and place so that they are able to attend. I will be able to keep track of the training by setting up a training schedule and the employees will log that they did the training so that I know the training was obtained. This will improve the knowledge of all team members so that there are no gaps in the agency. (Team, SMART Goals) To improve my listening skills, once a day for the next 15 days, I will seek feedback from my colleagues on how well I demonstrated active listening after a meeting. This will improve my listening skills and I will be forced to pay attention when people are talking, in turn I will become a better communicator. (Team, SMART Goals)
