What Are My Overall Leadership Characteristics
My overall leadership characteristics have grown over the last few years. In my opinion, I have more strengths than weakness. However, I still have many areas that require improvement, particularly my leadership skills. When I became a Hospice Director of Nursing, there was no one to train me for the position. However, over the last two years under the direction of a new Executive Director (ED), my leadership skills and knowledge have grown. My current management style is co-leadership with the ED and servant leadership.
My strengths in communication includes being brief and concise, active listening, staying focused, and thinking before I speak. It is also my strength to articulate expectations well however in small a group setting.

What is a leader? According to Kouzes and Posner, leadership is “the art of mobilizing others to want to struggle for a shared aspiration”, and indeed, these men go further to posit that leadership transcends a certain mode of behavior, rather, that it is an active set of skills and qualities that is clearly apparent. (Kouzes & Posner, 2012) An essential quality then, is a quality in leader that is necessary to achieving the goal of inspiring subordinates to said struggle. I feel as I have many strengths in communication but the top two that come to the top of my head are fearlessness and multilingual. To expand on that, with fearlessness comes an outgoing personality and that helps me with communicating to everyone. I am able to talk to anyone that is willing to talk back and if you came and heard the conversation you would think that I knew the person for years when in reality I only knew him or her for a few seconds. This helped me when I was a child I always had a lot of friends sometimes to many to even talk to all of them but I found away, all those friends were from different groups or cliques, and that shows that I can fit in with anyone. As for being bilingual that helps now and in the future. Now I go to Spain and I communicate with everyone from there and am able to get along with everyone where if you don’t speak the language you might not get that opportunity. As for the future, most companies are looking for people who have more credentials and what’s better than being able to speak another language.…
