My Personal Leadership Style
A successful leader always takes time to self-reflect and to looks for ways to improve their style and skills. I used the Seven Habits Profile to evaluate my present leadership style so I could understand my leadership style and be able to identify my strengths and weaknesses. By doing this, I was able to identify where I had opportunities for improvement. Using SMART goals I will set courses of action for improvement.
Seven Habits Profile
There are nine categories within the Seven Habits Profile. The profile revealed that I scored very good in seven of the categories. In the final two categories I scored good. The highest ranking

I scored a very good in category 1, an emotional bank account. I put a great amount of effort in delivering what I promise to deliver, I try to never think negatively about another person and I try to be kind to anyone that I may encounter during the day. That type of style is very reflective of a Transformational leader. I value my integrity. Integrity is the foundation that a good leader builds his life upon and they always care about the needs of others (Rudnick, 2007). I scored a very good in category 6, think win-win. I think that is very representative of who I am as a person and a leader. I enjoy helping others succeed and always try to find a solution to a problem that will make everyone happy. My first SMART goal is to build trust and a bond with my followers. In order to achieve this goal I would like to work on my skill as a listener. One important way to earn someone’s trust and respect is to listen to them. I will improve my listening skills by giving whoever is speaking to me my undivided attention. I will remove any distractions, maintain eye contact with the person that is speaking to me and I will not speak or interrupt them until they have finished speaking. When necessary, I will summarize what I heard to be assured that I clearly understood everything. Listening is a learned skill so I will make a conscious effort every day to improve my listening

The Seven Habits Profile revealed that I rank as outstanding in two categories, very good in six categories, and good in just one category. This seems to highlight what I am most exemplary at in terms of leadership, what I am just proficient at, and what presents itself as an opportunity for improvement. The main two strengths include having a work-life balance and being a proactive problem solver. An area of opportunity as indicated by the profile would be having the ability to synergize which is a combination of seeking the views of others and making creative decisions. The two strengths point to qualities I have constantly tried to improve upon. Earlier in my career, I was a bit of a workaholic and tended to bring work home with me. This resulted in a dismal personal life which eventually permeated negativity into my professional life as well. In light of that, over the years I have created rules for myself to remedy that initial error and in doing so this has become one of my strengths. My other strength, being proactive, stems from the lack of this quality in my current career field. More often than not it is more imperative to be reactive in my line of work. To set myself above the rest I decided early on in my career to work on being both, as being reactive is just as important as being proactive in…

Breaking down my leadership qualities and traits and what kind I am the first thing that always comes to mind, is that I am one who still has a lot to learn and many skills to develop. Yes, I know that all of that will come with time but it remains a lingering thought letting me know that there is always room for constant improvement. That being said I would like to consider myself as a transactional leader. I greatly enjoy getting involved and checking in to ensure things are getting done right when the occasion calls for it. To include the added bonus of handing out rewards to the individuals that worked day in and day out to uphold and meet or exceed the standards I set and agree with them on.…

Leaders with individual consideration encourage others to reach goals that help both them and the organization" ("Foundation of Nursing Leadership - What is your leadership style," n.d.). My results to this quiz did not surprise me, as I tend to work alongside individuals when I am leading them; I prefer to work side-by-side with individuals to reach one goal at a time.
